Tires

Does anyone know how the tires on the 10R will be compared with any other style/brand. I'm not to keen on the whole Dunlop thing, just kinda wondering if I need to pre-order tires as well, LOL.

Tyres should be on par with the current offering from Dunlop, I have been running D-208's on my 12R and have no issues as far as the corners or braking. I know a few guys running the Diablo's, they seem to be happy with them. I think the logical step would be to wait and see how the D-218's feel when you get your bike.

If you buy the hype:

Wrapping themselves around those lightweight hoops will be Dunlop's new D218ZR, which are based on the well-known D208ZR. The new tire benefits from new technology through the use of computers to optimize tread pattern stiffness. This increased stiffness will reduce tread squirm, lowering heat generation and allowing the use of a softer compound while maintaining tire life. The carcass will have a joint-less construction, and the compound itself is made up of smaller-diameter, high-carbon black particles which provide a tighter bond between tread polymers and carbon. The D218ZR is not going to be a D208ZR/GP replacement, but those models will have some of the technology from the D218ZR incorporated into them.

From MD's track test report.

If you believe the above, the 218ZRs should be like GP racing slicks, but better. I guess we'll all have to wait and see.

I dont like the Dunlop 208's that came stock on my 12. Since then, I've been using the Bridgestone BT010's and I LOVE THEM!

Good call JB, I'll wait and see what happens, cause tires are just too expensive here.

Yeah, I mailed my partner an exhaust can for his R1 this summer after he came over for the U.K. to visit. It cost $122 just to get it to him, USPS wouldn't take it. They said it was 1 1/4 inches too long. I had to send FEDEX, oh well, he's happy now. Can you get someone to send them to you through military postal? Might save you some money, I sent my stereo equipment back from Iceland for less than $70. Tyres shouldn't be more than that. Let me know what's up, since I retired, I'm back working on Langley AFB, postal is just three blocks form the job. Do you have direct dial DSN? I'm at 312.575.3509, ask for Johnny.

Peace,
JB

Thanks, JB, I just left there. I was on the Nimitz and went around the Cape Horn on it, I lived right outside the gate of Langley, off of King street.

Not sure if we mihgt have ridden together while you were here or not, I ride my red 12R mostly, usually have on a red, black and white Kaw jacket. I stop at the McDonalds sometimes, I'm usually one of these quiet guys... Bald head, goatee and glasses.

I had my ZX7R at that time (yellow/black), I talked to quite a few people, and I believe I may have spoken to you about where the good roads were, but I don't think that I rode with you, my loss, I didn't ride with many of the guys there after I watched one guy wheelie into the back of a car. I mostly rode with guys from the base and went to VIR to get my addiction cured(sort of). Most of the guys had the novelty silver helmets and no gear. Not a safety nut (yes I am) but I like to know should I go down that I'm protected. Once I get stateside we'll have to go ride. When I first got my ZX7 I rode to a friends house in Elizabeth city and back then all around the Tide water area. We did a lot of car racing at the dirt track in N.C.

I know of a guy with a yellow and black 7R, but he has had three of those bikes, same colour. I don't think you and he are the same. Anyway, are you coming back to Hampton Roads after the vacation in Italy?

Sounds good, I should have a race school and few track days under the belt by then. I'll be ordering the leathers in the next few weeks or so and scheduling a class with Corner Speed at VIR.

VIR is a really good track, it's also challenging. And it's great cause they can run it one of 3 different configurations, so plenty to enjoy, I just don't enjoy the cost in the states compared to over here, but hey you can't have it all right.

Might need a favour, need to see if you can get a set of the turn signals from the dealer in Italy. I want the flush mount front and conical rears for the 10R. I have a partner in the UK that is trying to source a set too, I am sure he'll be able to find them. I check the Canadian site and it looks like they'll get the same bike as the US. I was asking to be safe and compare pricing, you know everything is expensive in the UK. Let me know if you might be able to work this and let me know about the parts pricing and postage.

Peace,
JB

You bet you guys. As soon as my friend gets his bikes and parts in at his dealership, I can see how much they're asking for them. And then check on shipping on the stuff.

I was looking at the pictures of the Euro version and it looks like the signals are integrated into the fairing, but I could be mistaken, when it gets here I'll have a closer look.
