It will be some time before we get a production motorcycle to start working with. The few bikes that are in the country are not production units and therefore are not suitable for making "for sale" parts.

I really can't see the 10 making a big impression in drag racing. As such, I would expect to see a steering damper, swingarm buttons, maybe blockoff plates for the bike be popular. Don't know if a lot of guys will be lowering and strapping their 10s. Don't expect sidewinder exhausts, lockup clutches or extended swingarms to be a big demand...

Real Sportbikes like the GSXR1000, R1, CBR1000RR, ZX10, etc. do not make good drag bikes. But the real open classers do like the Blackbird, Busa, and ZX12. Heck even the FJ1200 was a decent drag bike.

swft - I'll take some of that stock your selling.......

you'll be sorry, on that stock that is... don't ask me, i'm a nobody, go to some of the drag racing sites or engine builders and ask them....and what is your definition of a good drag bike?

Like I said, Blackbird, Busa, ZX12, FJ1200, lots of the older 2 valve & 4 valve motors KZ1000, ZRX11/12, GS1100, and probably a ton more. I know a lot of guys who got the GSXR1100 motors really working, but they were in stretched chassis/swingarms

Now I'm talking about reasonably "stock" bikes here. It's simply common fact that short wheelbase Sportbikes don't make the best drag bikes. Start putting a bunch of mods/money into them, then that's a completely different story.

The 10 is also going to be expensive by design to modify for drag racing (engine wise). You can see some tech stuff on this from past posts.

Don't need to go on the drag sites or ask engine builders, I work with many of them. Drag Racing is not my specialty, but sure worked with a lot of them. But hey, for the right amount of money (gobs), anything can probably be made to go down the racetrack quickly.

Love to debate. Just can't find out exactly what the debate is yet.....

BW - Where did I say it would not go mid-9's??? Actually, at this point, I'm not sure even XL can say it would go low-10's.... Who knows, it's all bench racing at this point....

Ok, now onto the mid-9 thing. My responses were noting "reasonably stock". We've got some great drag guys on this site. Maybe Rickey or someone like him could do it. But with the presumably short wheelbase, even piping, lowering & gearing would be tough to make it there. But again, it's all bench racing at this point. Save your $100 for now. Not sure if you should be writing checks that your right wrist can't cash; yet...

Does it not take major fiddling to get a 12 into the mid-9's?????

Hey XL - thanx for the "damn kids" reference. Wish I heard more of that at this stage of life...

From Cycle World, November 2003: "Of course, as with every other escalation of the performance wars, there will be those who'll ask, "Who needs this level of performance?" The answer is simple: No one needs a 400 pound motorcycle with almost 160 horsepower, a motorcycle capable of accelerating through the quarter mile in less than 10 seconds. Absolutely no one needs a motorcycle with a top speed pushing 180 mph or more. Not one needs a motorcycle that will snap upright into a wheelie every time you accelerate out of a tight corner. Nah, not one needs any of that."

It seems that Cycle World thinks that the new ZX10R WILL do the quarter in the 9's.

It's called "evolution". It's kinda cool to see how this thread evolved. Hey, where did Y2KZX12R go to, the originator of the thread? I don't think it went toooo far to the left of his initial question. Well, actually, maybe it did........ Oops.
