Could someone tell me what the purple and sliver thing is just in front of and parallel the lower fork tube? At first glance I thought it might be a unusually located brake line, but upon closer inspection, you can see the brake line going from the top rear of the caliper over the rear section of the front fender.

Could this possibly be some sort of fork assist or secondary damper?

To quote Motorcycle Daily...

These are photos of the Kawasaki ZX-10R in its first test outside Japan, at the Spanish Calafat track, approximately 90 miles south of Barcelona.

As seen in the photos (and as expected, given the spec sheet of the ZX-6R introduced as a 2003 model), the ZX-10R will have upside-down forks, radial-mounted brake calipers and ram-air with a centrally located air duct.

Also expected is an entirely new engine (in the traditional in-line, four-cylinder configuration) and a very low dry weight for the class. From the photos, it is obvious that the new bike will take styling ques from Kawasaki's MotoGP machine.

Yeah, probably. Does kinda look something like RaceTech's "shock clock" and you know that ain't "lunch" or a new style tail bag taped down on in back.

The "purple thing" is a linear potentiometer that sends suspension movement and position data to the data acquisition. Common on most test rigs.

The real question is when and where can I get some +3mm over pistons for it! I'm already thinking #36 jet dry and coated overbore forged nitrous pistons. Take a good look at my new streetbike! Oh yeah let's not forget a set of fresh ZX "636" decals

One thing interesting is that it is on German plates even if they said the pictures were taken on Spain? Maybe were going to get more pictures soon... And also the wheels seem to be 5 or 6 spoke to make them lighter. Interesting thing is also that the side cover dosn't have any holes for covers to make it narrower? But it really looks good!!!

A couple of statements from other forums:

It's for real. Don't ask me how I know, but there are three of them at Kawasaki's headquarters right now. And some guys there aren't too happy that those photos got out already. It will definitely be an '04 model. This time last year, the Z1000 and new ZX6R were at this same rumor stage. Kawasaki will have their dealer meeting next month, where the bikes will be announced, and you'll see pictures all over the web zines then.

There's one here in Australia at the moment being checked over by the government for ADR (Australian Design Rules) compliancy. That should mean release early next year.

My local dealer says that Kawasaki are flying them over to Sydney for an unspecified reason in September but he expects it to be the local launch of the bike. Other interesting things to note on the bike are it appears that the fuel tank is under the seat like on the 12R, the swing arm is extremely long and the frame very massive. I suspect it's handling will be very front endy like the 7R.
