Faster better and lighter, not just one of the three.

if it's reasonably comfy, i'd be willing to make the trade. can't expect it to be AS comfy as the 12, but so long as i can spedn a day in the saddle without needing 2 days recovery afterwards, i'm sold.

Start saving up the pennies. By the time this bike comes out, you may be able to buy it outright. Apparently the due date is now 2004. Right now it's either buy a ZX-12R or but a ZX-10R in the next couple of years. For me, it's all dependent on how dominating the 10R is.

I should edit the poll to ask 'what's most important to you'. For me, lightness will be the key. Weight is the enemy. Lighter bikes handle better, brake harder, accellerate faster (given the same amount of horsepower). Heavy = Bad Light = Good.

I want to step down to a lightweight. I will be buying a new bike in 2004.
2004 will be the year of the 1000 with new models from Kawasaki, Yamaha, and Honda. And Suzuki currently has the 1000 to beat (just my opinion). I estimate that they will all be approximately 100 to 110 lbs. lighter than the 12R. The riding position will definitely be painful on the long hauls, but when you get into the twisties, all pain will be forgotten.
I don't have to have the fastest bike. I want a bike that is competitive with the others, reliable, tough, and good looking. I don't bleed green, but Kawasaki has a good reputation for warranty in my area. So the ZX10R is a definite possibility for me.
I'm anxiously waiting for those first real pictures. -ZXtra

All fears confirmed. Honda is going to introduce a 1000cc bike in 2004. Just in time to take some of the steam away from the ZX-10R. I wrote somewhere in the ZX-10R area about how if Kawasaki kept monkeying around there'd be too many bikes on the road for the ZX-10R to stand out. Well here we are.
Honda will be putting the CBR1000RR on the streets next year. All we can hope is that Honda follows its usual routine of overrating the horsepower on its bikes (a la CBR1100XX) and the ZX-10R smashes it in the real world. This may be easier said than done if the 2004 liter class picture shakes out like the current 600cc picture has. The Honda CBR600RR is less than a tenth of a second slower than the ZX-6R in the quarter and outruns it on the top end. Hopefully the same doesn't happen with the 1000RR and the ZX-10R.

Yeah heaven forbid Honda creates a bike with 25 more horsepower then the 954, weighs the same as the 954 and handles like it. The task is almost daunting! Given where Honda and Kawasaki are at presently, Honda has far less road to travel. Lets just hope that Kawasaki is paying attention.

What I can't get over is that a company (I think it's called TTS) bored out a ZX-9R like a year ago to create a ZX-10R. The rearwheel power on this thing was like 158 horses (THIS WAS AT THE REAR WHEEL). They were confident that their bike would easily match up with the GSX-R1000 in any straight line situation but commented that the older, heavier frame of the ZX-9R would need work to compete against the newer liter-class offerings.
I don't know why Kawasaki didn't just buy the whole deal from TTS and perfect what they had already done. A few lighter components in the motor, a thorough going-over of the frame and Kawasaki would have introduced a 160 horsepower ZX-10R. They would've had the bike on the street sooner, and would have dominated the class - at least in straight line performance.
As it stands now they have to overcome a stronger GSX-R1000, a very capable YZF-R1 and a very scary, forthcoming CBR1000RR.

Latest news puts the new Honda CBR1000RR at less than 370 lb.(dry), unit pro link rear suspension, and undertail exhaust.
This suspension on the CBR600RR is getting good reviews. If the 1000 works as good, it'll be a hard bike to beat. -ZXtra

swft,
great pole, I am constantly amazed at how the horsepower debate always comes up. It is weight, weight, weight, Remember when the 1993 900rr came out it was 409 pounds and 123 horspower. It set the world on fire, not because it was faster , but because it did ever thing better. Now we have the new 600's that are putting out 120hp and aren't as fat. Technology is great isn't it. I've always been a Team Green fan, and will always be. I just hope that the new 10 is just close and I will switch from my beloved 02 r1 (could not wait any longer on the new 10). After all the r1 is 4 years old and still gets 2nd place next to the gsxr. Not bad for a four year old design. After all it comes down to how well you ride and I got worked over this past weekend by a rs955 Sprint. So I probably couldn't tell the difference any way!?!

Hey, extremelean
quote: Why buy one when I already have 8 of em.....
Now that makes me wonder, if ....
1. all the EPA hoops have already been jumped through for importation purposes...
2. since there is at least eight 10Rs in Irvine (or Newport Beach... or where ever the KMC warehouses are)
3. guessing that these 10Rs are getting loaded up for the Las Vegas meeting...
4. there are no PR disasters or unexpected delays (i.e. '00 12R)...
5. the cycle magazines, both in the U.S. and everywhere else are screaming to get their hands on one...
6. the racing seasons for everything from CCS to AMA will end in just a few weeks...
WHAT IS THE ESTIMATED RELEASE DATE FOR THE U.S.?
Is it going to be like the 12R where all the other countries get their 10R long before the U.S.? Aussie dealers are claiming they will see the 10R hit their sales floors in December. Of course, they are closer to Akashi Works then we in the U.S. are. It's understandable that the Aussies will be the first to see the 10R.
Still, since the U.S. and Canada are the only countries to get all four colors, it would seem that we'd get them long before Feb. or March.
Oh... nevermind. I think it's a real safe bet that you ain't saying nothing about delivery dates until the Vegas show is over.

the 12 aint comfy?!? not compared to a goldwing maybe, but compared to any other bike i'v ever ridden (which isnt saying much addmittedly), it's a Lazyboy. i cant imagine riding a 6r (previous generation) or an rc51 to laguna and back, but it was quite ncie on the 12, with the possible exception of the seat neeeding a little work. still much better than other seats i'v sat on. personally, i'd say the handlebar position is perfect. but obviously that's gonan depend on the individual rider.
almost makes me tempted to buy another 12 & spend a few grand lightening it, rather than buyin a 10r better yet, buy one of each. take the 10 for rippen, and the 12 for longer rides.

I rode my second 12R from Seattle to Pasadena(1200 miles) in 16 hours. What other sport bike can you do that on without having to go straight to the chiropractor? Nigga pleeze!
