Mind of it's own!
I have been riding for over 20 years and have never experienced what I did two days ago! I presently own an '05 and an '08 ZX10R. I was at the track (running expert class) warm-ups. It was approximately 53 deg., so I was taking it slow for the first three laps of every session. 4th session I left the pits and entered hot pit. I was straight up 90deg to the tarmac, I released the clutch with approx. 20% throttle. The second the clutch was fully engaged, the rear stepped far to the left, the engine spiked into the rev limiter, the bike highsided and flipped all the way over! All this at 10mph, with very minimal throttle. Anyone ever heard of the 08-10r doing this?

Sure! Squids do that all the time.

Nice! Wanna race? I never said that rider error was not a contributing factor. I was simply looking for other possible explanations. I did check the throttle cable routing after a mechanic suggested it...and guess what I found? When turning the steering column to the right, the throttle raised the engine to 5000 rpms in neutral. The cables are catching on the frame. This also compounded the throttle response problem in both directions ( i.e. the throttle not only engaged, but it was extremely slow in returning to a neutral position).. This still does not seem to fully explain the result. If anyone has something constructive to add, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for insinuating that I am a squid...very helpful.

I own an 08 and havn't had the throttle problem but the cable does catch on the frame. It catches both ways, throttle and Front brake. I ended up putting a velcro strip around the edge of the frame that sticks out. Now the cables just go over the edge without catching. I dont know what a permanent fix for this would be. I noticed it when I first got it pushing it around in my shop, I went to jig it around and the handle bars were fighting turning when I turned it all the way, so I checked it and sure enough the cables were catching in front. If I get caught in a rain storm not sure how well the velcro will hold but for now I think it seems to work. I only stuck the fuzzy side of the velcro on. I can only say having that happen to you blows. I am glad you mentioned it so I can be careful. You are not a squid for crashing, shit happens all the time and after 20 years and track time I am sure you have more skills than most. My daughter had the same thing happen to her on her 06 10r, bike surged. She said she was hardly moving and then the bike exploded, planted her in the ground and flipped never even touching the tank. Totalled the bike. She had been riding bikes for 6 years and had more skills than most. The police figure the bike was doing 60mph but my daughter said she was just turning around to see the other guys on sportbikes parked down the street. My daughter had skills and wasnt a squid. She wasnt prepared for the bike to just flip for no reason. Hope you find the problem and post your findings. It has to be mechanical and I would like to know what that problem is.

have to change one thing to my response, the cables that catch are the throttle and clutch, not front brake. My bad. I have my bike parked beside my desk at work. Just so I can make bike noises as I lean over the tank occassionally. :o)

LOL I wasn't insinuating you were a squid. I was just saying squids do it all the time.
Sorry to have offended you. Wasn't my intent.

Have you talked with your dealer? I'd be quite upset.
I know of a few ZX10's around here and haven't heard of this phenomenon

Thank you for your responses! It looks like Kawasaki is going to fix everything at no gharge. While at the dealer the bike replicated the problem in a big way. No questions! Still do not know what change will be made to the cables to eliminate the problem, but I will be back on my '05 until it is resolved.
Thanks again, Chris
