NewB here, but been riding for 15 years. Nice forum.
Be careful, they may fit, but the profile is different. The 190/55 is a little taller in the middle than the 190/50. It may cause clearance issues with the swingarm. Not width, but in tire diameter. Especially at speed as tires will expand as heat and centrifugal force take hold.

This is my first time jumping into the threads here. I know that according to Kawi the reasoning behind the 190/55 starting back in 06 was to help in quicker steering response. It was suppose to help the bike drop in quicker. Another factor to keep in mind also is your wheel width. A narrower wheel will make the same 190/55 taller and more rounded. A wider wheel will with 190/55 will decrease the overall height or diameter of the tire and give it a flatter profile.
Then you need to check on the brand as well. Different brands and models will have a slightly different shape as well.
The 190/50 BT002 on my GSXR 750 is much more rounded than my buddies 190/50 Pilot 2ct on his R1. Then look at the stock 190/55 Qualifier on my ZX10R and it looks like a frickin flat drag tire in comparison.
The guy who does my tuning says that a lot more people are ordering the 55 series tires for the track than they used to, but it make take compensation in the gearing and suspension set up if your not careful.

Really from brand to brand the Dia differs for the same size tire. Shouldn't BUT it does...

also maybe keep in mind when comparing the 50 to 55 remember one is taller and more beneficial in the turns, but less contact patch on the straights so the drawback is much faster tire wear and much less contact patch for traction on the launching/straightline..
most all of us on track days run a 180 tire for better cornering anyway

the tire profile does change the handleing of the bike, but its nothing that cant be fixed with proper set up. A bike can be set up with a 50 series tire just as east as a 55 series. Once the bike is set up for that profile, it will make little difference....from what I have found is that I like the 55 series as it feels like it gives better traction while at full lean.

When switching tire profiles, and or width, keep in mind they are mathematically related. Going with a wider tire will change the profile height even if the series is the same. The series is a percentage of the width. Then figure in that going witha taller profile tire will also change your overall fianl drive ratio.
I have a great excel spreadsheet on my other computer that works extremely well in helping to figure your gear ratios out and one thing it takes into consideration is tire size. Using that you can see the difference tire sizes make.
I will try to figure out how to post it on this thread. If anyone knows how to please let me know, or i will e-mail it to someone who can post it for me.
