Clutch problems
Hey, was wondering if anyone knows what may be a cause to the problem i have. Riding this past summer, my clutch decided to go out. I took it into a local shop and had the guy that my friends and i know, look at it. he said that it was the fibers..the metal plates are " okay, and dont need to be changed" so i spent 300 bucks on a clutch kit...aftermarket, and i cant think of the name off the top of my head, replaced the fibers and stiffer springs. Told me to go easy on it for a while, and i was off. I was easy on it for about 500 miles or more...and letting it open up a few times, i discovered that it will slip when under a real heavy load. Especially on the highway, kicking it down a gear or 2 and nailing the throttle, it will slip, then generally , catch back up and thrust me back. I stunt also...mostly just wheelies...i know its not the best for it but ive never had this problem with any other bikes that ive had...so now, if i want to clutch it up in second...it feels like it wants to drag the clutch out longer after i let it go...im thinking this is linked in with the kicking it down, subject earlier that i mentioned. However, i do stand up wheelies also, and it doesnt give me a problem when in second gear, if i stand up ..bounce a little, and hit the throttle..no slippage, or hesitation...im sooo confused!! sorry for the essay...but hope someone has some idea...
thanks!!

did the guy tell you what oil he put back in? check your engine oil is a bike grade one and not a car oil, to cope with emission laws car oils have additives in which is fine for a car which runs a 'dry' clutch but would make a bike clutch slip as it is coated in the 'slippier' oil.

oh sorry, yeah its a ZX10R- 2005 ..these probs happened at 7000 miles. bought it when it had 3k miles. He put semi-synthetic in it. its a bike grade...but i thought maybe i should try using a diff oil... had a similar problem a while back...it kept shifting into false neutral...on the highway when id kick it down, thought it was me...but ended up the guy who changed my oil, put lighter oil in it, so we put heavy in it and it went away. (this was at about 5k miles, way before these new probs occurred)

1. clutch has 2 places to adjust cable... at the clutch cover where a bracket holds clutch cable are two nuts that work to adjust... and at the front brake lever at the handle bar.
if the fibers are new and the plates are ok then it probably needs to be let out a tad bit...
if after few adjustment tries it still slips then I would suspect the plates...synthetic or car oil should not be the problem I don't think... I have used synthertic mobil car oil on high powered motorcycles for over 15 years with no issues...
Let out the clutch a bit.. for one it should have a bit of slack at the clutch lever...if not you found your problem for sure...

alright i'll check it out. its in the shed at the moment, with about 3 feet of snow around outside the shed..so i cant get to it but when the spring time comes, i'll be sure to re adjust it. also, my old cable i was told, was stretched out. so he adjusted it to accommodate that issue until i bought my new cable, which i did, and i never put it back to the way it was. hopefully thats it. thanks for your guys' help, i'll be on these forums alot, you all seem really cool. take care!
