Go check out the Michelin Pilot 2CT. It is a new two compound tire that is just fantastic. Soft edges and a harder center.

Running the Michelin PP front and rear makes a more stable AND quicker steering platform.

The front tire is "Taller" by 2.2 mm and the rear is 8mm "shorter" from axle to ground than the Done Laps. Of course you will want to have your fork tubes flush with the triples on this set up.

I don't know what you know about tires, so I will start at the beginning. The numbers on a tire are defined as follows: 190/55-17
190 = width of tire in millimeters
55 = height of tire in percentage, in this case 55% of the 190
17 = rim diameter

With that, it is my understanding that the taller sidewall, the 55 instead of the former 50, provides a wider contact patch, especially on turns. Since the sidewall is taller, the arc of the tread is not as steep, providing a more "flat" thus bigger contact patch. With a bigger contact patch, more control of power to road and more predictability.

I could be wrong, so please, someone correct me.

Sure, When I installed the PP's...I compensated for the 2.2 mm taller front tire by raising the forks in the triple clamps by 2 mm to maintain as much of the stock geometry as possible. I performed the same with the rear, which needed to be raised 8 mm.

I encountered an issue with this set up at the next trackday. The bike was very un-stable over 100 mph and wanted to tuck the front. The stock stabilizer had to be full on to minimize (not eliminate) head shake. I immediately returned the forks back to "flush" by dropping them in the tripples (rising ride height /added trail). This settled the bike right down and I was able to take 3 clicks out of the stabilizer.

I will also be pulling the ride height shim out of the shock and drop the rear 8mm. This will add rock solid stability back to the chassis and with the tire profiles on the PP's, maintain quicker steering than the OE Done Laps.

Well.......

If you look at it on paper, it's "under whelming". I had it tuned and Mapped on the dyno and it picked up 2.2 peak h.p. However, it smooths out the h.p. and torque from 2-7,500 rpm.

H.P. and TQ are stronger by up to 4.5 and 5.5 respectively from 3,500-5,250 rpm. with the stock pipe. Almost the opposite occurs from 5,250- 7,500 rpm. with the Akra. Thus producing a SMOOTHER powerband.

From 7,500-11,000 both pipes produce the same power. Akra finally picks up 4 h.p at redline.

On the track, with Ram Air it runs very strong! I get comments on how hard I pull away from guys I run with on corner exits and on down the straits.

I am running the stock filter also for now.

The other thing I have not been able to determine is how much weight was saved with the Akra.

Damn that's a nice bike! So what does it say on the upper by the windscreen now? Have you decided what you are going to do about the rear break reservoir?

BTW...I might be at the races this weekend...did you want me to bring the PCIII stuff? I had it ready for you to pickup but you never called.

Can't believe I left my jordan wristband on there...

Is there any other tire for the street and racetrack? PP's for the street (who cares what flavor, its the street!), and Pilot Power Race medium compound and chicken-hawk tire warmers for the track!
