10R transformation complete

Track only now, I'm not going through switching everything back again til I sell it. What a PIA it was to get it to here.

Here is my new Yukon I picked up Friday, damn I love this vehicle.

Looking good Otis, though the Ti color is WAY better IMHO. But the race plastic will be better for the track.

How's that Hindle sound?

Yes the Ti color is better for sure but this is a trackbike. I'm not a fan of the green but I think it looks sweet.

Hindle sounds tough for sure.

There goes us railing on 10s at DG, though I don't blame you for not wanting to change it all back.

The only things I'm reading / hearing that are negative against the 10R is the tach which is universally hated, needs a damper, and some issues with the brakes. I posted a thread on the brakes just to see what I'd need to do if I got a 10.

Yes the tach sucks. If the sun is out and your railing on it you can't just glance down to see where you are at. The only peeve I have about the bike. A damper is a must!

HDL and I were racing our '04s this weekend.

My advice:

I'm running 15/41 gearing on mine, and that woke the bike right up, and took first gear out of the picture for everything but launching; I highly recommend not racing in first gear.

Get rid of the hugger and chain guard (or loctite the bolts). NM, get rid of the chain guard anyway.

Change the pegs - I dragged mine until I got Woodcrafts (and I run GP pattern).

Get a hole saw, drill/notch the bodywork over the engine mounts, run Woodcraft or similar sliders right from the engine mounts. Get a Woodcraft or Factory case cover.

Does that Ohlins rear adjust for ride height?. If you like Michelins (you've got PPs on there, right?) run PR-C front and a 190/55 rear on that bike, with slightly less rear ride height than you might think you'd need for a 180/55.

Looks good. Stay safe.

Ya know Otis my 10 has never showed it's ass back when I didn't have a damper.. I only put one on because I plan to let Zach Millholland ride the thing some and he feels safer with one.. But now when I ride I don't even pay attention to it being there... Sometimes I wonder if some guys use a damper to cover up other problems with a bike.. Either way as long as it don't hurt it must help eh?

As far as the tach goes I never look at a tack anyway after riding a bike for a short time. I pay attention to engine sound and vibrations to tell where I'm at in the rev band.. I'm usually within a 100 rpms that way.. What I have noticed about the 10 is the shift light.. It does work and will catch my eye. I set it a little low and use it just as a reminder rather than a SHIFT NOW!!! light.

On that gearing I run a 15/40 combo and like posted above it wakes the dead!!!!!!!!

When I first got the 10 I didn't care for it much to be truthful.. It fit good and all but I was use to the 12R and felt the 10 had a hard road to hold against my beloved 12... NOW days I never ride my 12 and when I do I don't enjoy it like I once did. It's all 10R these days for myself.. Anybody want to buy a mint condition 12R??

Can you tell me why to remove the hugger and chain guard? I'm happy with the Champs Sliders, they have 2 points of contact and are nice and solid.

I have a Penske 8900 Rear shock. As a matter of fact the UPS guy just dropped it off, I had Penske racing service it for me. I will be putting that on tonight.

I have the PP's on their now, next spring I'm going to switch over to the slicks.

I've never seen anyone crash with 'no cut sliders' and be happy with the result. Make up your mind if it's a racebike or not... and if it's a racebike, equip it like one.

The chain guard will fuck up and get in the way for tire changes, and if you run loose enough for roadracing, your chain will fuck it up in no time, expecially if you change gearing. The hugger just gets in the way of tire changes and all sorts of stuff. It's just another part to fall off...

Good choice on the Penske - I have the double also. Great shock.

Also Otis I hear that if you run the taller tires they will blast a hole out of the middle of the hugger in NO TIME.

hey Chris...I runa 190/55 on the back of my 10, I had to remove the hugger as it was getting a hole worn in it from the tire, even with it moved as far to the rear as I could get it.

I run -1 in the front, and +1 on the back and really like it, but unlike you and Dave, my bike still sees street use. I was +3 in the back for a while but I hated it on the street, so I had to compromise and went with the +1.

Dave is right about the rearsets, I need to change mine as I cant keep my toe off the ground. I am looking at a set of Vortex as they are cheap, like me....lol

I have no cut sliders on my 10 and they did a decent job of protecting the bike when I high sided it, but with aftermarket bodywork I woudl go with somethign a little more sturdy. I really like the build on the Muzzy sliders, but I dont like their location.

Dave....next time I am at the track, in 09....I am gunning for ya.....lol When I can race a full season you wont be so far ahead on the start and I wont have so much ground to try and make up.....lmfao Great riding this weekend bro.....gonna miss it and all the people out at the track next year, they are all my extended family....jsut like the Smackhouse crew here......

thanks Dave...and count on it...you will see me on the track again, as soon as I can....planning on running the whole 08 season...if everything goes right....

Was nice to win the race....would have been more fun if someone had made it more competitive....I had a 200 yard lead at the finish....on lap 4 I didnt see anyone close so I dropped from :16's to :19's....and went to cruise mode to save tires and energy....lol

KB, when you going to come out to Arroyo and race with us?

For the benefit of everyone else, I wasn't in the race with HDL, the one he won, in case it seemed to read that way. I had my handsful with some other classes. Jim's fast, though he won't say so.

I would love to. But man that's a ways out there.... I'd have to get serious to drive that far. There's just so many tracks out here to play on. Jim - yep - he's a good guy. Anybody taking a '04-05 10 out onto the track and winning with it, is a fast guy.

I haven't won with that bike yet, but took a second and a third place with it this last weekend (and a second on the 636, too ). I've got one more race weekend this year to get it done in, though I'm hoping to win the HWSB championship with the 636 (but it'd take a miracle).

ASMA is a fun club, with a whole lot less BS and a really loyal and friendly membership. The track's tight and technical, average speed over the 1.4 miles is about 67-69 MPH, top speeds of about 140. It's got great runoff.

If you find yourself traveling out this way with a bike in tow - or someone else is coming out - for example, the WSMC two-stroke types are catching some buzz about coming out and racing with us - consider stopping in to race.

Sorry about jacking the thread.

I might talk to Doug (Chandler) about coming out with him in December. I believe he said he has a school around that time. He can stop by and pick-me-up.

KB, do it! He brought his son here to race his first roadrace with us. And he's got this freaking diesel rig that's pretty awesome, I bet the ride'll be sweet. That'll be the banquet weekend, too.

I will try to schedule that in. Jett is going to be a phenom. Yea, his rig is sweet. I spent alot of time with him at Laguna Seca in it. When we had our Freddie Spencer/SuperTrapp Racing Team (with DC riding) doing all the Grand Nationals in the 80's, we converted a Grey Hound Bus to a sleeper/transporter and custom painted in the SuperTrapp logo scheme. Even by today's standards it would still be sweet.

Kerry if you get down to Arroyo to spend some time, come to El Paso and pick up my ZX10R and take it to the track. You are always welcome to ride my bike, adn I dont make that offer to just anyone. Its here and in December I will be in Iraq so she will just sit in the garage begging to be ridden. It will even have some decent BT002's on it......

Dave fixing to take the wheels off the 10, Ivan will be here in an hour or so to pick them up and use them as spares for his 10 in Daytona in a few weeks.

oh you can count on me comming back, I have to beat up Dave on the race track in 08. I am going to try and do tha entire ASMA season in 08. And it will have some suspension stuff done to it, new shock and fork internals, and if I could ever get a header from Area P (hint) maybe a little more power.

By the way Kerry, I am still waiting on my shirt.....
