'07 GSXR has adjustable fuel map standard
According to Motorcyclist magazine, the 2007 GSXR 1000 will have a three position switch that will change the fuel and timing maps in the ECU. The three positions will be for "Dry" , "Wet/Dry" and "Wet" surface conditions. Is this just a flash in the pan, since it is not owner adjustable?
This reminds me of the Yosh version of the PC that everyone talked about a few years back, but I never heard of anyone actually having one. It makes one wonder how Dynojet will address this new offering. Will Dynojet offer something that works with this switch and allow the owners to determine what each setting will do? Could it be that someday a version of their PC ("PC4"?) will have a "change on the fly" multi setting capability? Say a "Street", "Wet" and "Track" settings?
It also makes one wonder that if and when traction control ever makes it to the consumer level of sportbikes, again, how will Dynojet address this issue? Will the other major manufacturers make this fuel/timing adjustable feature available as either an option or as standard equipment on their offerings in the near future? Any bets on who will offer some form of "true" traction control to us mere mortals first?
It appears, for at least the time being, the major manufacturers have hit a small wall when it comes to major changes in the tuning of their engines and basic frame/suspension geometry. So what's next? I don't see a version of the "Big Bang" motor on the consumer horizon any time soon, but I have been known to be wrong. From a mechanical perspective, is the next logical extension of the slipper clutch some form of traction control? From an electronic standpoint, multi map choices? Traction control?
Electronic "Wiz-Bang" features could be the next set of updates, just because of the economics of it. I'm sure most 10R owners would gladly give up the lap timer feature for a variable fuel/timing set up. Traction control for mortals (and morons) is likely a few more years down the road before they can come up with a configuration that is "squid proof".
Still, I'm guessing that traction control can be a "electronic only" thing and there be little to no mechanical aspect to it. If this is the case, maybe traction control will come first. It might be some watered down version that could resemble what is being offered on the Gixxer. Just mapped differently. Odds are, it won't be done in a way that the owner can alter it, unless they bought the race ECU.
Since MotoGP has gone to the 800's and AMA doesn't run the liter bikes in the Daytona 200, is the liter bike going to go by the wayside? Is the liter bike really too much for both the track and the consumer? By 2010, is it going to be the ZX-8R that we all are clamoring for? It will be interesting to see what KHI, Yamaha and Honda does with their bikes for 2008 and 2010 (just a little over 3 years from now).

Dear Kawasaki,
I want a ZX-8R. Just make it look like the '04 10R. I hate undertail exhausts. Write that down.

cowboy bought one for his dragrace 12 way back in 00 or 01, which i helped (a little) to install. he used it to have a NOS map and a non-NOS map i don't think DJ is worried about competing because a) the thing ran close to $1000CDN and b) DJ makes the core of the system anyway (maybe ALL of it for all i know)
