Oils used?
I am probably opening a can of worms here but I was wondering what oil people are using (mainly synthetic or mineral base)? I use mineral base Spectro 10W40. I change it every 3000 miles. I don't run my bike hard and I don't see the point in the added expense of synthetic oil.
The other week I stopped at a shop that was on my way home from work. I normally don't go there but I decided to give them some business to help them out and it was convienient for me also. I asked the guy for Spectro oil and he said that he didn't sell that brand. That was no problem I didn't have to have that brand. The person then got a couple quarts off of the self of synthetic 20W50 that cost $10/quart. I told him that I use 10W40. He asked me why I use such a thin oil. I told him that the owners manual recommends 10W40. He said that in the summer time I should run 20W50 and that is what all the racers are running. After that I told him that I don't run synthetic oil and asked for 4 quarts of mineral base 10W40. The guy then went off on a ramp about how much better synthetics are and that I should not use the junk oil that I have using. I told him that I had a Dakota pickup that never ran synthetic oil had 250,000 miles on the original engine. If mineral base oils are that bad then how did that truck survive that long? That made no diference to him. He was still going on about the oils as I was walking out the door. He made a mistake on hounding me so much as I will probably never go back to that shop again. When I got home I double checked the manual and it states that 10W40 is good up to an air temperature of 104 degrees. It never gets hotter than that in Pennsylvania.

I normally use mobil one in everything I own, but mobil doesn't make it in 10w40, and since I always run synthetic i've been using castrol syntec 10w40. Wish mobil 1 made 10w40, but that's life i guess

Mobil one exclusive for motorcycles at about $10.00 a quart is available in 10-40 weight ... I have used it so far but planning on going to Amsoil in the future and not spend that much...Amsoil is just as good and claimed by their tests to outperform Mobil one ... and for less $$..
Here is a link for Mobil one:

I personally use SHELL Rotella T synthetic (blue bottle) 5w40. During start up you want your oil to get to your engine's top half as soon as possible. Thinner oil gets up there faster than thicker ones. Talking about race track and trackdays? There is a ton of racers using Shell Rotella T. That's the reason why I switched, check out their website and go to the motorcycle section. I have 10k on my 10R combined hard riding, and trackdays. I'll post it when the engine blows up....LOL!

I use Rotella 15-40, and Chevron delo 15-40 I get from Costco. I change my oil alot so I don't need hi priced synthetics.

I race my 10R and 636, using Shell Rotella-T Synth. I change the oil every race weekend.
