chain breaker
I am going to put a new chain and sprocket on my 10 next week, and I am thinking of buying a chain breaker. I just dont know if it's something I will need enough to justify spending the $100.00 on. I do a few track days here and there, but most of the time just kinda hard street ridding. so should I get a breaker or just grind the chain off?

Just buy a grinder. You can use it later on more stuff than a chain breaker.

There are many less expensive breakers out there. But grinding off a couple of pins is the easiest way. A $20 Harbor Freight 4" grinder works slick and is a handy tool to have. I have a few of them with different wheels on them so I don't have to muck around changing them.

Even the best chain tool can be trashed if used wrong. Don't try to push out the pins on the master link. That's the strongest link in the chain. For taking them off I just get out the 3' bolt cutter. Really. Instant gratification. I use the DID tool for peening the master link pins. I also have the cheap PCCC breaker, and it will last forever if used right. It's just a lot easier to use a bolt cutter. Did I mention I use a bolt cutter to take chains off?

I like to grind the ends off even though i have a chain link tool, cause then i just hook the new chain to the old one then i just spin the tire and watch the new one get sucked in.

i like the ida of a compact breaker/chain tool kit so if a chain goes in teh middle of a trip, all i need is a spare master link to get going again. bolt cutter not so portable. anyoen know of a quality, but not Snap-On priced kit?

I went and got me a DeWalt grinder, and it worked pretty good. Now I am going to need a cutting wheel for it, so I dont have to gring the chain in half
