3 weeks and I am still not over it...
This spring I traded my 12r in for a 2005 10r. What I thought I was buying was a 12r in a smaller package. I think what happened was all the hype about the bike, watch your throttle hand etc, and the dealer pumping up the performance. Well, I do and am having a ton of fun on it but it really is not all that fast. My 12 was wayyyyy faster, I love how the bike corners and wheelies on turn exits and just about everywhere. I tell people it feels like a suped up dirt bike. Think about wheelying and up she comes, love it. Coming home on a trip with my friend (Busa owner) I figured after trouncing him on the back roads and leaving him for dirt we would crack it on the straights, take him on his own turf. I started in second passing a car and he was behind me, bout 260 he went by me like I was going backwards. I was a bit in shock as I could beat him with my 12. We tried it twice, I hit everyshift around 12000 rpms to make sure I did not somehow bump the limiter but same thing. I talked to him after and he said he was only doing top gear roll ons. I could not beleive it. I called the dealer and he thinks my exup valve is sticking as that should not have happened. Too late though, everyone knows in my town. He came by the next day surprised I did not have a for sale sign on it already, I almost did. He left jokes on posters at the gym as well with Nos can taped to the walls and a refector whip to provide Harley owners enough notice to pass by the Kawicruiser as he calls it. I had friends stop by my house to talk to me about it. I talked to the dealer about a 14. I figure the 10 is good for fun days when I want to corner and wheelie but I won;t race it again. If we are cornering I will put it too er with the other riders but I can;t have anyone else put me to shame like that again. Burst my bubble. I only have a slip on Akro, My daughter has an 06 10r(Which she can handle) and she convinced me to get the valve checked and if it is okay, Full system akra, power commander sprockets. If this does not cure the acceleration then I will get a 14 next year. I love the look of the 10 better though and it is great to ride it, just wish it were faster. I guess if I wanted faster onl;y I would have gotten the 14 to begin with but I love wheelies and cornering mostly. I put the posters up at my work as I deserve it, got too big for my britches. Racing a bike that has 300 more cc's and 25 ft pounds more torque is not an even match anyway. I got let down because of all the talk. I will keep it too the back roads from now on. Even can lose my daughter(who goes by me the same way on the highway) on the turns and she is faster than all the other guys I ride with. Kinda cool watching your daughtrer exit a corner on the back tire gassing to keep up. I make declas for a living so under the Ninja I am going to put the word turtle, just for fun. Might be the last one getting there but I will still be smiling, it is a fun bike I just had my expectations too high.

Put the Akrapovic stainless race pipe on it, drop 2 teeth in the front...Then it will be a different story!!!
There is no replacement for displacement !!!

Depends what kind of race... over 150 mph busa might shine but what have you done for mods to the 12r? I did a 10.3 1/4 mile on my 04 10r where a 12r only managed a 10.4 yes rider and all that stuff comes in but the 10r is anything but slow... again what mods and over 150 mph is not where ya spend most of yopur time ; I don't anyways.. not even close..
10r needs to be appreciated for what it is .. you can always modify it for more power if you know how and can afford it.....I test drove a zx-12r and no way was I going to spend the exttra cash for it just on account of top end .. I kept my ZX-11 that day.. now I have ZX-11 for comfort and still good power and can do with my 10r what I want...lots of options for more power on the 10r... I realize preferences and needs vary.. good luck .. 10r rocks in my book.

Ha ha I knew some busa owner would pipe up. No worries. I like busas as well but they are pretty one diminsional. I drove my friends bike and love my 10 way more. My 12 had a full akapovic, power commander and sprocket. My 10 is fast but for some reason poops out through 4th gear. I can wheelie third by cracking the throttle. Problem is, he went by so fast I feel a good rider on a 600 could kick my butt. My 12 was way faster. Must be something wrong with the bike. If there is not I will be definitely putting more parts in, getting it dynoed and adjusted. This cannot ever happen again. I was thinking of decalling up the tank to look like a turtle shell. If I can't be fast I can at least joke. I am not interested in any other bike. Sat on them all, even drove my daughters bike. I like the 05 the best, just need to find out how come it is not what I thought it should be. The race intake cam sounds interesting. Maybe I could be faster than my daughter though she underweighs me by 100 pounds. :o)
Probably not. I will let you know if it is my exup. If it is I have to redeem myself, race 2.

Your 12r was setup similar to mine. Only difference I went with the thin head gasket, 105/103 cam timing and an extended rev limit ecu.. Runs NASTY.... Get the bike dynoed and see if its inline with other similarly modded 10s..

If your 10 feels slow you must be one hell of a rider. It's gonn'a take a jet bike for you to be happy but please don't give people the idea to call my green bike a ninja turtle I don't think I could take it.

too funny!! Never thought about a green 10r as a turtle. I am trying to have fun with it. Go with the joke so they can't get to me. I am sure after a bit I will have to bloody thing stupid fast. Tuesday I went with my daughter and Over a hill in first I was laying over the tank trying to keep the wheel down to be fast with a knee out to keep the bike straight as it was drifting to tthe road edge shift to second do the same thing until I finally sat the front down to make the hairpin at the end of the straight. I love that it does that, just no explanation as to why it quits in 4th. Tuesday I am hoping to get to the dealers(3 hour trip) to see if it is a problem or I am just too big to be fast. I bought a zero gravity windscreen to help get out of the wind. It should help. I lift weights and I have a hard time getting out of the wind. It might be just me. I really hope they say the exup valve is not fully opening the bike should be fine now and 4th, 5th, 6th hauls as hard as I thought it should. If I get my bike fixed I hope to get my friend out again, he may not taking his gift victory to the bank. He had even brought his secretary with him to increase his gloat factor. It would have been crushing but for the fact she was very pretty and accepted to go for a ride on my bike someday. Put a band aid on the ouch. :o) She is not going for a ride with my friend so who's the real loser? :o)) At least it helped me sleep. Looking forward to a trip through the mountains this year on the 10. I had scrapes on the bottom of my fairing on the 12 through those mountains. Love to see how the 10 handles it, 2 1/2 hours of 30km hairpin turns. I get super tired on that trip. The 10 should be a blast. Hope the turtle is up to it! I plan on flogging the beast! It will probably wear out my tire, I will have to get a new one before I go.

Dude....
I'm two seconds a lap faster on my 10R at my home track than I am on my 636. And the 10R isn't set up with forkwork or a shock, yet (the 636 is dialled...).
You TRY to take a 12R or a 'busa on the track - I race ULSS/SB against a guy who does take a busa out - and I guarantee you you will understand about the 10R.

no worries, I will make my bike faster. I kicked busa butt on the back roads, but on the highway he tromped me.

To be expected really - been proven time and again as it's just a matter of torque vs hp.
I wouldn't get overly upset about it - 300cc/aero's/20 ft/lbs tq will come into play eventually.

Ninja Turtle: Hey, if you can't get over this top end thing call Jay Leno, I think he's got the bike for you. The speed of the Hyperbikes is tempting but there's no way I'd trade my 10R. They are just too heavy and I'd rather have the handling than the speed. I may be a weenie but it seems to me 175 is fast enough. But hey, you guys that are hooked on big speed good on ya, I can't knock it. But I'm only about 135 lbs so I hate wrestling a 550 lb beast in the parking lot. Be safe, be fast. Wuff

hmmm.... dunno bout this topic... my 10R is hardly a slug compared to my 12R... you didnt do anything bizarre like breaking it in the "motoman" method (Dino style)? how many miles on your 10R?

guy on the busa is fast...I have seen it with my own eyes....but on my 04 10r I can run with him down the straights pretty easy.....but he rails that thing through corners too...if he were on a 1k it would be sick......
