problem with steering damper recall
Hi everyone, I would like a little help with this steering damper recall on the 06 10r.....I brought my bike in to have it torqued to spec and once they did, the damper body would no longer rock back and forth.....so according to the recall it needed a new metal collar that sits between the mount and a nylon washer. To make a long story short that hasnt worked either. So my dealer called kawi tech support and they told us not to torque it to the 11 ft/lbs that the recall says...to only go 9ft/lbs and locktite it....well that didnt work either!! so now its been 2 weeks without my damper on because i dont want it to bind up like the recall suggests will happen. Has anyone else had this experience and was it fixed??

Sounds like your dealer's torque wrench is tweeked. This is a light torque, so make sure they have a quality (Snap-on etc) accurate 1/4 drive in/lb wrench.

My dealer uses a matco torque wrench I wouldnt think thats the problem, it starts binding around 5 ft/lbs. I think the nylon collar may be to thick because the metal washer doesnt quite go all the way through......

Picked up my 10R two weeks ago today and when I picked up the mail tonight I got my liscense plate and the RECALL at the same time. Lovely! So I'm off to the dealer tomorrow and will report back tomorrow night on what kind of ordeal it was.

Was suppose to take my 10R in yesterday but was smacked with some sort of stomach virus that was a lot tougher than me. Will try again in a couple of days.

I'm sorry but if they can't figure out how to fix a simple damper there morons.
thats about as hard as putting the key in the ignition cylinder. time to go somewhere else or fix it yourself.

So heres the update from my dealer.... they decided kawi tech support was no help so started tinkering on there own, on one of the showroom bikes that had the same problem, they removed the nylon washer and sanded it down thinner so the metal collar fits all the way thru....seemed to work, and now they want to do it to mine. Im not sure i want them to do this since its not a factory fix. any opinions??? P.S i like my dealer they are very good to me and let me work on my bike with their techs, unlike most places. But they were just a Honda dealer until Januarary when they took on the kawi line so their techs arent that experienced with kawi........
