chillmex... You started out the right way by asking the advice of seasoned riders, I did not add it up but in this post you have seen at least 100 years of sport bike riding experience.
I have 32 years riding as well. AMA CCS and WERA roadracing, enduro and ice racing.

I will say he same as most here.... Start on 500 -650 cc bike. Better yet a 250 dirt bike for a year or so then a street bike.

A Twin SV650 Suzuki is my choice for you... Great bike !! I have one in my garage for track days. And I ride a ZX14 on the street. LEARN and LIVE. Riding is the most rewarding and challenging thing I have ever attempted to master. I am not there yet, nor do I ever think I will.

Start smart and easy

Your buddys RC51 is a V-twin..........lemme put it this way...I'm 260lbs 6'2 and my 636 inches above my 6' 200lb friend on his SV1000. My '03 636 also is side by side with another friends RC51 at speed. Those 1000 twins are practically equivilent to an inline 4 600. Now you want a 10R.......you're so far ahead of these twins and the 636 that you're going to either get hurt or if you don't...you will never really tap into your potential as a rider and never progress...trust me. I've learned from experience in the past. I learned so much from my 636 and have dogged some 1000's inline 4's on the back roads. Be a good rider, not a poser! What you're thinking about growing out of it is WACK...the bike is not a goddamn piece of clothing....it'll rock your world...so don't fuck up and make a stupid decision, like getting a 10r for your 1st ride.

I started ridingat age 6 and I'm now 43. I've had Big bore street bikes since 1980. I currently own a 12R and 10R. In all the years riding NOTHING and I mean NOTHING (short of a couple of turbo bikes I had) runs like this 10R!!!!!!! If you start on a 10R for the first bike you will without a doubt make a huge mistake. Possibly one that you won't survive. That bike will get you into trouble so fast it's unreal. It's the only bike I've owned in many years that gives me wood everytime I ride it. It's the only bike in a long time that actually reminds me constantly that it will bite. Do yourself and everyone else in the health care chain a big favore and take the advise of some of these guys above.. The worst time of each season is te first part when we all have to read about the huge amount of accidents that take away peoples loved ones..

OK. Great choice of bike but come on - 1st bike a ZX10R!! Congratulations for the guys that bought one as a first bike and did not trash it. We are all guys and full of confidence and when you have a 160+ hp bike things can get out of shape real quick - trust me.

My take - get a used 636 - 110+rwhp, great street bike and pleanty fast for a while till you get up to speed.

2 cents and good luck.

I am not going to quote anybody here, but I hadn't wrecked until someone actually wiped me out on the street. Ended with a little road rash, thank goodness for Alpinestars, Shoei, and JoeRocket.

Anyway. chillmex, you dont give an age or if you have ever ridden before....so....please take everyone's warnings to heart. They are truly concerned about other rider's safety. Remember, if you err on the side of safety, you have a greater chance of keeping the rubber side down.

My experience: I was lucky enough to have someone coach me in the same way the forum is coaching you. At 22, my first streeter was a Ninja 250. It didn't take long for my skill to surpass the bike, but I learned A LOT from that little thing. After that I rode the original ZX10 of a buddy and quickly found that 165 was very different from 120. I didn't have the skill yet. I then got an old CB700 to play and learn more on. As I got better, so did my bike; I went to a ZX7R. NIGHT AND DAY! This is where I really learned. Even got some Keith Code classes in. I took a hiatus for a while and now ride an '07 ZX10. This is a different monster with the same green color. She will surprise you. RESPECT HER!

I think the reason everyone is worried about you is that you stated, more or less, that you were concerned with beating cars.

Experience talking: Leave the racing on the track and keep safe on the road.

My 2 cents. I hope all goes well for you. Good luck.

No bike goes faster than you twist the wrist.

I regretted and had buyers remorse learning on a small bike just to be done with it as soon as I was comfortable on a bike within weeks.
