front wheel removal
Folks,
I have been trying to get my front wheel out for 2 hours now and I can get the blasted 22mm nut to come off.
I have undone the R/H fork leg allen bolts and can not get the 22mm bolt to shift.
I know it's supposed to be done up tight, but come on, this is just ridiculous. I have used a socket and rachet arm with a huge 3-4' metal bar on the end and it's not shifting at all. In fact it has streched the socket and busrt the side.
I do not have a spindle socket and I guess that if I had one I could just undo the other fork leg allen bolts and undo the bolt that way.
Can I undo that R/H allen bolts and undo the nut,
OR
Do I have to undo the L/H allen bolts and use a spnidle key. (This is the way the service manual recommends).
Please help, I have to get my tyres changed by Friday. Small thing about a ride to the south of France with the boys.

Ok my way to do it. Undo the pinch bolts all the way on the right side, then loosen the nut on the right.
OR
Do the same for the opposite side. Undo the left side pinch bolts all the way, and loosen the left side. I actually prefer to do it all from the left, and tap the axle out rather than pulling it from the right.
Do this as a test, undo all of the pinch bolts and see if you can get the axle to spin at all. I can't believe it's in that tight...you might have to get some impact sockets. I have seen it happen before and it annoys the crap out of me that somebody would put an axle together with an impact wrench. If you have access to a blow torch, put some heat on it first, then try loosening again.

Forgot...if you're using a 12 point socket, switch to a 6. They're a lot stronger. Or you could just buy an impact socket (the black ones) and a breaker bar...it should easily come off then.

ok folks here goes.
I have a 2005 ZX-10R, and I have done this many times in the last 6 years of owning ZX-9Rs.
I have tried both sides of the wheel, with no success.
I have been using a 6 point socket, that is now split, after using a 3' long extension bar to get some leverage on the socket.
I finally managed to get the back wheel nut off, but only just.
The thing that is worrying me, is there appears to be ZERO grease on any of the bolts I have managed to get out. I'm not mechanic but I know that I put bolts back in with a small amount of copper grease on them so they don't seize or bind.
When I got the caiper bolts out they where bone dry, so was the back wheel axle, and the pinch bolts on the fork legs.
What the hell is going on here. Are Kawa saving money by not using grease?
OH and I also sent som e hate mail to KHI customer services last night to ask them what to do.

I used air on the axle the first time getting mine out. I now have anti-seize on the threads and, with the pinch bolts loosened on both legs, I only need a socket on the axle to remove and re-torque the axle. No need to hold the hex keyed insert. If you have enough torque on the pinch bolts holding that insert, the threads will likely be bound. Try loosening that side.

So I managed to get the axle out last night.
I used a 14mm hex key 1/2" socket. Made sure hte pinch bolts on the r/h side where really tight and crack, out it came.
It was done up way above the 108NM it should have been.
But at least I can put some copper grease on them now and tourque them up right.
