NOOB checkin in from west palm beach...got a strip question

Hey guys, jsut joined up the forums.....I got a killer deal on a 04 zx10r the bike I have wanted for the past few years from upgrading from my 96 yzf600. So I have had the bike for about a week. I have been riding everythign from bored out zx12s to 1375 to gsxr1000's to 06 10rs to anythign else I have been on and finally I Was able to pik up my own beauty.

Anyways today I Got my nice new GPR top mount steering damper and my MPR stealth kill switch. I put some lowering straps up front with the aid of brocks radial mount mounts. Gearing is stock....Removed all emmissions form the bike including the cat (which actually wasnet the best idea caus enow I have an open chamber in the exhaust) well anyways Im goin to the local drag strip (moroso motorsposrt park) wensday hopefuly if the weather is good.

Just wondering what some peopel have run with no PC, exhaust or aftermarket air filter?

I have seen a few vids on google video of a guy runnin mid 9's with a stock lookin bike slammed prob a good 2 inches.

Thanx for any info guys!!!

Regarding the CAT .... you should have around a 1-2 inch square ... just go to your local shop and have them weld in a small scrap for 30 bucks.

Regarding Turning a Superbike into a Stip bike ... run the bike on Track Days and dont destroy the suspension, clutch, and engine by draggine. Or swap it out with a BUSA ($7500) or ZX14 ($11500) or ZX12 ($6500) or Old School GSXR1000 ($3000) and you will be able to beat the ZX10R every time.

I live in Palm Beach area as well ....take that zx10 out to RT27 and dont stop until u hit Miami !! You will never want to lower it again

well I like the zx10 and I bought it because I like most every thign about it.......and Im into drag racing as well....I used to race my F350 dually so yeah I like drag racing so why would I buy somehitgn else jsut to go a lil faster in the 1/4?

I hve a few stock 10r exhasut layin around the shop so I could always replace them anyways....

but anyways thats the whole reason why I Went strapped up front, mainly cause Im a wheelie guy but when I Want to race a quick pull of a strap will allow me to launch this sucker real hard and barely get my front wheel off the ground.

so anyways......has anyone run their 10r in the 1/4?

got pics and such up here at www.garthman.com/zx10.htm

black 04 ZX-10R

best so far: 10.08 1/4 mile , 139 MPH; stock exhaust; BMC race air filter, strapped down lowered 2" front and back, 6" swing arm extension ; geared 15/41, had good shinko rear tire , done on a hot day; I weigh about 210 lbs with full leathers ; done last year.. burnt clutch before I got a decent 60'. going back this summer with new clutch ,full stainless steel oval muzzy exhaust ,pcb with muzzy mapping... .. I should be ready for nines now .. don't see any problems myself.....

If you are at sea level that will be to your advantage.. my local track altitude 1400' and air quality not known to be very good which works against me a little.....

I don't believe a guy will get near as good efficiency out of butchering open the stock exhaust versus a carefully engineered aftermarket exhaust; I prefer full system myself....

Have fun..

yeah I know I wasent gunna get power out of takin the cat out, I jsut wanted a deeper tone and that gave it to me, Im gettin a full yosh Ti system in the next month or so hopefully.

I was also gettin a lil worried about my clutch, how long did it take for your to burn out? My buddy has a 04 Ti 10r as well lowerd 2 inches front and bak and 1 tooth down and a 40 shot and hes been runnin that set up for a while with some nasty launches and burnin everyone up but hes had no clutch problems......how much abuse can these clutches take?

Lack of learning I had was the fact that the ZX-10R clutch benefits greatly from making sure your clutch are not dry...mine only lasted about 7,000 miles before it started slipping seizing and then shortly afterwards began slipping ..I made two mistakes... no make that three

1. I never took time to take the clutch plates and soak them in oil did't know it would help. Should be done between visits to the dragstrip...

2. I did not let the clutch cool down at all between runs during at test and tune day at the track. Ran 3-5 times virtually back to back a number of times. No one told me ya let your clutch cool down. hehe. ZX-11's I raced with numerous times before handled it quite well.....

3. Was practicing with short dry jumps before my turn came up just before the lights at the strip for practice... this was also wasting clutch. Now I just go up to the lights at the drag and let her rip just once per pass...

I read ZX-10R gets around 40 passes on stock clutch...I'm gonna do some nines and take it kinda easy afterwards myself.

A 40 shot of nitrous has to be cool; what times is he running?

Well...There ya be... free info..Have fun.

yeah the 40 shot is pretty crazy, he hangs with a 200hp 204mph (in the 9/10th's) ZX12 bored to 1375.

I plan on being very gentle to the clutch.....same as what you do, no messin around before runs and such and inbetween, I used to pit for my uncle who had a drag bike so I know the basics......I go tmy leathers all ready to go so we'll see how it goes!

"only mods are lowered with pipe and gearing"

Ha! That is feather weight Ryan Scnitz doing the riding with MR9 fuel, pcb III with fine tuning on a dyno by the best ...

Video has been around since the ZX-10R came out two years ago...still fun to watch and try to learn a professional launch from him...Ryan is the man for dragracing the ZX10R. I wonder how he is doing with the ZX-10R Turbo lately??
