Did the dragracing bug get ya? If it was me, I would get the 14...unless you plan on slamming the 10 to the ground and extending the swingarm at least 6 inches. A turbo 10 with a stock arm is going nowhere but up.

Then again, I can't justify buying a turbo kit that costs almost as much as some bikes. I wouldn't be running it with a stock internal motor, either. If you get a turbo, the days of doing basic maintenance and not worrying about the motor will be long over.

fish, if you haven't figured it out already, the 14 is an instant collectable. Z1, CBX, Busa, 14...first year intro bike only. Sell the other 3 you have....NOW! This (14) is the bike you save, if you want to save a bike. Your 3 bikes are worth more right now than if you waited tomorrow to sell them.
Do you really need to have DMV know you on a first name basis? Buy a CD with the (sale of 3 bikes) cash, and wait for something else next year or down the road. 3 bikes + DMV fees + Insurance + 3 $ervice intervals + bike depreciation = What are you waiting for?

Does the above look like you are saving money for another bike? Did you pay for yourself for your retirement, or haven't you seen the savings rate of Americans? You think you can get the same dollar amount out of the 3 sitters a year from now? I've got your tough call.

I call BS on that one (respectfully CR ). ANYTHING can become collectable. It just depends on how many people with $$$ desire it. With the increased popularity of motorcycling in the past 10 years, look to see some VERY collectable bikes from the stuff we ride - problem is that it will take 20 years to see which ones "make it" to collectable!!

Only you can answer that question Fish - depends mainly on whatcha want.

Turbo will be kick-ass fer sure but how practical?

1 failure with a turbo could cost ya thousand$ ta unfuck.

Will the $5-6K ya spend on the turbo justify the mod or should ya just take it in the ass and trade the 10 in for the 14 for the whoppin sum of $5k?

I'm thinkin the 14 is gonna be the way to go in this situation.

Of course the mental speed freak in me sez TURBO DAT BIOTCH!!!

Start buying up 12R's then. Personally, I won't be around to know if the 12 ever make you a dime? The 14 is going to be a slam dunk. Forget about starting to find parts 30 years down the road at a swap to restore your 12. That's how long it takes for the bike to be rated "vintage." Do you want to show what a 12 looked like 30 years from now with swap meet quality (junk box) parts?

Here I am a young guy, extra cash, looking for nostalgia, because as a kid, I was reading, watching those 12's, and Busa battles going on, and on. Guess what that kid is going remember, and want to buy the most? Even K admits it. You don't hear the ad's saying the 14 is a "12R Beater"?
km
So, is not the 14 worthy for instant status? The Busa is history. Loved the power. Stock for stock, the Suzuki will go in the 8's no prob. It's going to take a whole new engine family to do it. Don't hold your breath for an XX to help either. You might be looking at years from now.

Remember, who dominates the history for awesome power plants!

My passion are new bikes. Fresh mounts. Fatigueless frames. Fresh factory compression. The evolution from points/condensers to ECM's. The best of the best. The quickest of the quick. I pay myself first. What's left over, I save all over again for a change of hardware. This bike shit is worse than H.

In the early '90's, I restore, and sold a '73 Z-1 for $4,500. Glommed it together with almost all '74 internals. Put the silver barrels, and wire harness on the bike even. It was all fucked up double year'd with rusted out original '74 exhausts. The point is, the glommed first year Busa will be a beater. Your pristine 12 will command le$$.

That fucking punk kid!

I don't think the 14 will ever really be a collectible, same with the busa and 12r. The way things are looking...kawi is going to build a ton of them and sell them for years.

The only bikes I can see being collectible are the ultra rare, limited production runs like the 06 r1 le, harley vrod destroyer, or buell xbrr racebike. A lot of the vrod destroyers and xbrrs will be raced and wrecked...in 10 years there won't be a lot left and they should be going for a ton of cash.

Go ZX14.. too much power for the streets like a turbo ZX-10R will get old fast. I think anyways...just not practical; stock already has more than enough power for street use....

Your right deathpulse...I would say that only handfull of Jap bikes actually become bonafide collector bikes worth $$$, usually the ones that changed history...

Seems to me that only limited production Jap bikes can become collectors, ie. Yamaha R7, Honda RC 30 & 40, and in the near future the Kawasaki ZX-10RR. To name a few.

Fish I would definetly go with the ZX-14 from those 2 choices. Power and comfort seems to be unmatched. But by hook or crook I would try to keep the ZX-10 also to have the best of both worlds. That's my ultimate motorcycle fantasy, a couple of '06 ZX's in the garage.

Fish, I had my finger on the trigger to do a turbo on my 10. The last deciding factor was way less than a 100 miles on a tank full of fuel. Shit all you would get done in a day is hunt the next gas stop. It's bad enough with the 10 anyway. It wasn't the cost of the fuel that made me decide not to it was the complete uselessness of the 10 after the turbo for all but the Drag strip. Fook THAT!

Keep the 10 for twisties. Get the 14 and put an adjustable arm on it, along with the nice fully adjustable links, and straps. You could have it ready for drag strip duty in 30 minutes. Put it back to stock height and wheelbase, maybe put some detachable hard bags on and go touring. You would have the best of everything. One great bike for railing, and another bike for the strip and going cross country. That sounds like the most logical thing to me.

And learning to dragrace with a turbo 10r is definitely not something I could ever recommend. Scary, scary shit I tell ya.

....I still regret selling my '75 Z-1B....don't wanna have that feeling with my '00 12R...if I can't justify or afford the 14 this year, at least I'll still have my 12R....maybe keep it and go Muzzy 1375 with it....how much bike can a geek like me use anyway?....nice to feel and say I have 200rwhp with my little four-banger, though
