ZX-10R Sit Report

Well, eminences have brought you ride reports, measured weight reports, and ergonomic measurements reports, so much material of much better quality than this has already been posted.

But all I can do is bring a Sit report, having sat on the 2006 ZX-10R at the local dealer for a bit.

The higher rear peg, or as Fish reported about 1" closer distance between peg and seat, is indeed noticeable for a 6' guy with 33" inseam. Getting a bit tight there.

I didn't get to tuck in because the sales-adolescent was hanging around too close. However the bike seemed reasonable.

Apparent weight seemed good.

I liked the Ohlins and the triple tree. The exhaust tail situation doesn't look as bad in person, and remedies will almost surely come.

Now there was never a chance of buying from this stealer in any case -- one would have to be financially careless to do so, but I asked anyway. The bike was tagged at I think $11,199 at the least and may have been a couple or a few hundred higher than that. Told him I probably wouldn't be able to get it due to really horrible tax bills, but I just might, so what would the out the door price be? The kid tells me it would be aboutc $1500 more than that.

So, they want something like $12,669 OTD.

No wonder I've never purchased from them and never will.

I do wonder if the Buell peg-lowering trick will work on the 2006. The truth is, the hero blobs on the stock pegs are gigantic, costing an inch of ground clearance easily. So why not just have the PEGS an inch lower and then not have the blobs, is my thought?

I wonder how much money I would lose to buy one (at a much better price) and keep it for only a few months while building the 12, then sell it. A beauty part of that would be it would set a handling standard for the super lightened, upgraded suspension, shorter-wheelbased 12 to aim for. It's a tempting idea. I really can't justify the cost of permanently owning both though -- the bad men in Washington want a lot of money.

i think the 12 is useless, a 10 with a longer swingarm on this new 2006 model is lighter, wont wheelie (with the extended arm) and has more torque and HP....whats the point of having the 12 now that the 10 has the new power band and can be launched really well.

Well -- given the vast expertise I now have from sitting on the bike -- there is no similarity for me personally in comfort between the 10 and the 12. The Twelve, I do need or rather prefer to stretch and move around a bit each tank of gas to loosen back up, but it is a comfortable bike for me... the 2006 Ten, I'm pretty sure I would not be happy having my knees folded that close for long periods of time.

However, as in the above post, I don't see why to have hero blobs an inch lower than the pegs. Why not lower the pegs to as low as the blobs are, and have no blobs?

That extra inch could change my opinion. It still wouldn't be as roomy as the Twelve but wouldn't be a torture instrument so far as leg bend goes.

Also, maybe a Corbin seat would sit an inch taller and thereby give yet another inch of legroom.

Also, on the swingarm, it's the reverse: the new 10 has a shorter arm (though still fairly long) than the 2004-2005, and from reports wheelies easier.

Wow,,,The new 10 might have the same hp but the 12 will always have WAY more torque.
And the swingarm is shorter. Just my 2 cents. I'll keep my 04 10 thank you very much.
