Any new '06 zx-10 owners...does the new ride "cook"

I'm curious to know if any of you guys that have picked up their new rides recently if the new bike generates an uncomfortable amount of heat with the new exhaust system to a degree that can be really uncomfortable while riding on the street in mellow situations kind of like the R-1 does. Any insight? It's a high compression sportbike engine so I know it'll generate very noticable heat, I'm just curious to know if its at a level that can be brutal.

I'm pretty certain i'll be looking to get one perhaps in April but want to do as much as I can to be well informed about the pro's and con's so that I know what to expect as an owner. I know I'll be using it for commuting duties come the spring and summer and the stop and go is unavoidable at times.

good question. I never had a chance to ride it on the street. I can only assume that the exhaust gets hot, but possibly not TOO hot as the cats are located in the header, and not under the seat.

Damn dude... good ? I rode my new 06 all around Sunday here in Fl. and it was an unbelievable 80 degrees out. I never gave it a thought so yes I guess they insulated the heat very well, couldn't say that about my 04 R1. That muther would fry your arse. Also I noticed an aluminum cover in the tail section directly under the seat, I'm sure that helps.

Un-noticed for the short putt I did on ours (it went right into R&D). The shielding is well designed, the aluminum housings on the mufflers seem to stay reasonable cool, the ti mid pipes actually cool down much quicker than stainless steel, and with the cats located below the engine, heat really doesn't seem to be a factor yet. They get some fairly good cooling being exposed and under the engine. But it's summer yet either.....

The R1 did not have as good of shielding, and the single cat was located closer downstream of the mufflers (it is in the "Y" pipe junction before the muffler mid-pipes and gets very little cool air to it).

...I think CF mufflers are cool to look at and have some cool weight savings, but are CF mufflers cooler in temp?

swft - the pump flows just fine thank you. Especially when I'm riding something!

wormie - CF mufflers most definetly run cooler, provided the packing material is of high quality (like Silent Sport Premium thanx for asking... ). Even after a hard ride and/or many runs on the dyno, you can literely grab/touch them. And, they cool off very quickly. You couldn't even think about doing that with a steel, aluminum, stainless, or titanium muffler.

did a 20 minute session on the track this weekend, adn happened to bump the muffler and jumped, then realized it wasnt hot, so i grabbed it, ( i know...duh right)....butit was cool enough to hold onto. The temp gauge was reading in teh high 180's......CF is really the way to go....

I can say after riding my 04 to the dealer last night and then sitting right on the new one it is definately different. the front end is out in front of you more and feels more like the twelve except not as heavy the mufflers are smaller than i thought from looking at pics. it feels slightly heavier but it may be just the way its stretched out.

So far so good but i've only gotten to ride in 45 degrees.I'll let every1 know what happens with her in Daytona.I dont expect any problems with heat or anything for that matter....They built this bike very very well....taken everything into concideration. Now only time will tell . Ride safe
