Thoughts on '06's steering damper and "staying power"

Has anyone but myself given thought that the superb ohlins steering damper will be an item that makes it on the "must steal" list for those miscreants that are prone to being oportunistic stealin' asses?

I had a look at the damper on the bike at the Moto Show in NYC and I was thinking that some punk could jack this thing in 15 seconds and thinking it might become a major problem with the new zx's when they hit the streets and people do their things come the summer and have to park it and walk away for a bit. You might chain up the bike, but what about damper security or am I having concerns about a thing we shouldnt worry about...

I like the active hyperpro way better after trying it over the ohlins anyway.. Steal the Hyperpro and throw the ohlins away. Your asking for trouble if you leave your bike out anyways.

The thieves will probably forget about the damper. They can make a lot more money by stealing the whole bike even if it is locked up. I guess the dampener would be easier to hide and get away with though. Either way thieves suck!

As a rule, if I have to park and walk away, I don't.

having had a bike stolen before plus many other things i can say that if somone wants it bad enough and is willing to thieve it than most likley they are going to take it. But as for the damper im sure there is going to be a way to change out the nuts to ones that are either specialty tooled or ones that you can find that lock.

How true that if they want it bad enough they will find a way. Mine had a 1" cable lock on it when it got stolen. They cut through that like it was butter. They even stole the straps holding the bike down onto the trailer. Unfortunately you can't always keep your bike in sight. The only thing that I could have done diferent, and I wish that I did do, was to take the bike into the hotel room with me that night.

Ahh, the joys and pains of ownership..
There are those that will 'jack' the bike but there are those that are more opportunistic and will be more inclined to take easy to 'unhook' components. Like those guys who dont steal cars but take the radios (does that happen anymore?) or wheels...or '03 to '05 zx-10 owners who wouldnt say "no" to an Ohlins damper

Boy I'd like to pistol-whip the bastid's that make sportbike ownership so fretfull at times that we deeply fear parking the ride and grabbing a bite at the TGIF for fear of having to walk home in our SIDI's..
