i went down today just another case of why to wear your gear. I was going around a turn and getting set up to make another. When i was in the second turn my back tire lost traction on the gravel left over from the snow a month ago. I made the choice to not lean over any futher which put me straight in line with a crub. I tried to break but was too close. So i held on and got ready to eat it. When i hit the curb it ejected me off and onto the road. When i got up I took a couple of steps towards the bike but fell down one of the people in the neighborhood saw it and came over. after taking a ride in the meet wagon and spending a hour and a half in the hospital they finally let me go. they took x-rays and said nothings was broken but i may have torn some ligaments in my ankle. So now Im down for a while and so is my bike. But at least i was wearing my gear. All of which held up good and kept me from getting serious rash.I wear two layers of paints so it only burned through one layer. At least i was able to leave with everything intact. Now its time for the long process of getting it fixed, at least it happened now and not during ridding season.,

Glad to hear that you'll be okay. You'll probably be a tad more sore tomorrow.
As far as "totaling" a bike, it depends on several factors. Things like which insurance company you have, what kind of coverage/deductible and how much the adjuster actually knows about bikes might have more influence than the amount of actual damage to the bike.
Many companies will total the bike if there is a single scratch on the frame, even if the rest of the bike seem relatively okay. Bent wheels and/or forks are some other items that might rate a "totaled". Many adjusters would believe any of the above translated into a bent frame and they might be right. If there is a lot of damage to the bodywork and tank, they might write it off too. The cost of a tank, tail section and some of the side panels could easily run over $2,000. Just the starter cover alone costs well over $100 retail.
Just because the damage might look minor, without taking it to some place like GMD/Computrack, you can't be sure something is not tweaked. It could be a swingarm, triple clamp or just a bent fork tube. If they won't total it, I would want them to pay for getting it measured and checked out by a place that has the proper equipment to ensure that when all the other parts are replaced, it truly is "as good as new".

that helps a little, my insurance is geico, i was womdering if they would let me take it to the kawi dealer and let them come up with an estimate to fix that way they would know weather or not to total it, like i said i hit the curb. it hit i straight on but the bike was at an angle so i would find it hard to believe that i did not bend the forks i had a full set of frame sliders on so the tank and main frame look to be okay but front fairings are wasted belly pan has good rash on one side pipe is scraped tail is scarped and burned and the rear wheel is scraped on the lip The only thing that seems not to have been affected was the tank frame and pegs oh and the fairing frames look to be pretty well bent

i went to the doctors today and they looked at the xray and but by the grace of god i didn't break or tear anything. No ligaments the hospital said they thought they could see a small fracture in my heel but today the doctor said if it was there he couldn't see it he said it equaled to more or less a brused bone. Only going to be down for a couple of weeks thank god also thank god for good gear. Also the insurance adjuster came by today and he decided to total the bike 05 zx10 with only 2600 miles and he was willing to let me take all the aftermarket parts off. He said payoff should be somewhere between 8 and 10 grand. at least now i can get the 06. anyway just giving you guys a update . Keep it safe and enjoy the mild winter

yea i know i went back today to look at where i wrecked when i got thrown off the bike it was off the side and not over the handel bars which was good because i wrecked right in front in of a street sign which would have hurt on the plus side five days later my foot is starting to feel better and my insurance adjuster (geico) got back with me today and said they were going to give me a total of 10,300 for the bike which i only paid 10,400 with a five year warrenty. So i guess it all works out for now because i was originally saving up for a 06 anyway which is what im going to get now. I guess that's why we pay the good money for insurance. All in all i'm just glad i was able to walk away with nothing serious and that i have the vacation time to take off work while i get better.

one thing about the 10's is that they are not made of steel , mine went in a ditch , im talking about a grassy one , no concrete , no trees , and it got totaled out every thing came apart and got twisted up
It was some funny shit watching the guy try to load the bike. I sat inside for about 10 minutes watching him try to wench it up on the truck before going outside to show him how to get it up which is in the one picture. It took him about 45 minutes and a busted hand to get it tied down he actually dropped it on the truck before he got it tied down. I didn't help him because it was hard watching my baby go bye bye. In the end he tied it against the headache rack. The bike had about a 90 mile drive before it made it to its new home. Got everything worked out today and I'm going next week to pay for the new 06 zx10 lime green so by the time it gets here i will be well enough to ride again so i guess everything worked out okay.

"I tried to break".... "two layers of paints"... "during ridding season"... Maybe while you're down for a bit you could try hooked-on-phonics and learn how to spell.

Its called I was in a hurry due to the pain of sitting up. Also the fact that I was on alot of pain kilers. Maybe if you would have paid attention to the post and not been checking it for spellig errors you would have noticed that I had just got out of the hospital. But anyway yes you are very very funny cuddos.

Get well soon! I put my ZX-11 down in a left turn last May. It was my first accident in 23 years of riding. I was going 10-15 mph on a beautiful day (70 degrees, sunny), and both tires just folded under me. I have found no explanation for the accident (no gravel/sand/oil--just nice asphalt).
Wearing appropriate gear, I got no road rash, but my right foot hit a curb. I saw my leg/ankle snap, twist and flip, and when I came to a halt in the median on my back, I could not see my foot--it was turned down 180 degrees. I wiggled my toes to make sure the foot was still there, and they moved. I was in a great state of shock for hours, and the ambulance took its sweet time before it showed up. Once at the hospital, I had to have a bunch of hardware put in my ankle (one long operation), and I was completely bed ridden for 5 weeks, and could not put my foot down for well over 2 months, and then only with crutches.
I still have constant pain and can't walk without limping from the pain (no running possible) and am going to physical therapy (nine months later). The doctor says it will take two years before I will be ok. So, I would say you are lucky, or perhaps I was unlucky. Anyways, good healing!!
By the way, the ZX-11 was older (1999), so the insurance company totalled it for me, so I am now looking to get the 2006 ZX-10 instead.

dam man that sucks. Just goes to show anything can hapen at any time. It's never good to hit anything while slidding. But like people will say at least it is something that was not permantly damaging in that at least you can use everything again. Good luck healing.
