Helmet, jacket, pants, boots, gloves...and just to be safe, wrap a mattress around yourself.

likely the lowest gear you can use, at least as long as it doesn't get too close to redline so as to cause an extra shift for nothing.

With that kind of power and going from 80mph you may as well just pay the bet and save the abuse to your pride and your 10. Or say your Grandmaw died and you had to go out of town all of the sudden Jeeez I would love to see the 10 win that, but I would think you may have written a check your ass can't cash....

860 hp is a lot of ponies.. even if only 700 hp still the car should have the advantage over starting at 80mph; heck I bet a 860 hp lightweight car needs 80 mph just to have a chance of traction on the street....
Just speculating of course... seriously..860 hp !!!??? yeah stay home that day. or go 0-130 ; then traction and rider can favor the ZX-10R... (better with with 6 inch extended swingarm) hehe.
Merry Christmas!!

If you have to ask that question you probably shouldn't be out racing anyone. Not trying to bust your bubble but just stating a point. What do others think??

If you have to ask what gear it doesn't sound like you have the riding experience to take on a race like that. I also agree that those speeds will favor an 860 hp civic.

At 80 mph that civic will suck the paint clean off the 10R. You couldn't pick worse conditions for your race to be held under. You would need a turbo bike to stand a chance in those conditions. You're playing right in the middle of his sweet spot on power. Change the conditions to favor you if such conditions exist.

when i asked what gear... it was because i wanted to hear opinion from here and there and its not because i dont have any experience... i just think that there is always a better rider..but thanks for your comments..

It would definitely not be "third or fourth" but between first and second. As you say a better rider might have a better take than one who hadn't measured such things. As a guess any improvement in acceleration right around 80 mph in first, compared to second, wouldn't be worth the extra shift but maybe someone can contribute on that. Third, let alone fourth, just are not in the consideration for what to start out in.

What gunner said; he is luring you into his hand so far .. don't fall for that . If I were you first get some 1/4 mile times under your belt and take it from there . you will know much better after that. you have options to get the 10R in the nines with moderate effort .
Plan to spend around $600.00 minimum for dragrace set up.. At least need to lower , swingarm extension , change gear ratios, new chain and side stand then you will have a much better position.
He will likley lose to then if he goes for it...will need some experience for good 1/4 mile to make this work tho. It can be done.
after 1/4 mile what has already been said . but remember you did not spend the cash to get 860 ponies. wonder if he gets that much. he does not even do nines??
I did 10.03 without swing arm extension and stock exhaust; not that hard to get into nines if ya want to bother to....can beat as is in 1/4 if you get good at it...
have fun the 10R is still an awsome piece of work regardless... have fun.
Merry Christmas!!

You'll have to run better than 150mph in the 1/4 to have a chance. Since you sound like you've never been to the track...you probably wouldn't break 140s.

If the Hondas best ET is indeed 10.06 then 10R can do better ; note 10R can do nines with low 140's. need at least 1.6 sec 60 foot ... just ask the guys in the drag section... common knowledge...I have done 10.08 in the 1/4 with just 139 mph myself this past summer...
Much also depends how naturally gifted you are..
From scratch (if never been to the track ) will take at least 8-9 passes to know whats going on with your bike ,clutch ect...... just an estimate assuming you get it on on the street as most people do with their bikes...on a saturday some tracks have test and tune and allow repetetive passes with little wait... just don't burn you clutch with too mant repetitive passes. need to cool down clutch to make it last longer...
An extended swingarm helps tremendously to keep wheelies down....
Merry Christmas ; wish it was summer!!

Is your bike all stock???...You have a pipe???...Stock sprockets???
You better do some rollon practicing on a quiet hiway somewhere by yourself...To figure out what gear is about 9,000 rpm when you start...
I recommend you get your hands on VP MR9 fuel, it gives you more than 5 horse power just pouring it into and empty gas tank...
