Thank God for Steering Dampers!

Is it just me or did anyone else think these things were useless until they kick in one day and save your life! I was coming hot out of a wide turn around 30 or so in 1st and decided to pull a "bad ass" and do a fish tail. Well in 40 degree weather when the bikes tires have only been warmed up for a quartermile and you grab a handful of throttle while at semi-lean going 30 mph...let me tell you the bike loses it quick-like. Anyway to make a long story short I slid out like a good 7 or 8 feet and got almost totally sideways both perpendicular to the road, and sideways to the concrete, then all of a sudden my bad boy kicked in and all of sudden the bike re-corrected itself, or course while I had already gotten the shit scared out of me, and I just held on while the damper took hold and set me back after a few hard bobbles...amazing! Anyone have any good settings for a Scotts damper? I just had mine on some random settings but not that I know what this bad boy can do I want to make sure it is set straight.

After pulling that stunt you sound as if you were surprised! Sounds to me that pure dumb luck had more to do with your recovery that the steering damper!

Looks like you got your Christmas present early..................... and not in Hospital.

I run an Ohlins, been down that road a couple of times at 200+ a real Pants Filler especially when you go for the brakes and ZIP!

been there without a steering damper...
200+ mega slapper, that day I couldn't buy a lotto ticket because all my luck was used up...
I've got a hyperpro now, it still slaps now and again... but no where near as bad...

I don't see how a damper saved this situation either. Sounds like you just lucked out. A damper is more for high speed twitch that turns into more.

The damper was not what saved you, luck had much more to do with it and the fact that the tire didn't hook up and pitch you off the high side.

damper never hurts.....prolly wasnt what saved you in that situation, but it didnt hurt to have it on....around town I turn mine about 1 rotation from full out......in the twisties or on the track I turn it about 1 rotation from full on.....

oh, i know the feeling of my damper...the bike would have slid out way more if the damper didn't stop the left/right sway of the bike/handlebars...I guess I just didn't realize how much you could literally "feel" the damper...maybe I have my settings perfect or something...awesome though either way
