I have the CM66 pads on my 12R and don't think all that much of them. I wish that I would have used the 55's instead. I don't think I keep enough heat in the 66's to work at their peak designed operation temp.

And they do. I haven't had a chance to get them up to the Gap or Cherohala yet and I figure they'll be smokin up there. So I'm going to put up with them till I get up there. If after that they still leave me unimpressed they're history. If I can't get the brakes on a 12 hot enough up there to make them happy then it aint ever going to happen on this earth anyway.

Just out of curiosity, other than costing a fortune, is there anything about the stock pads you guys don't like? I've run the shit out of them at 4 different tracks and perhaps 1000 miles downhill on Palomar's exquisite "tight side." Other than making a slight grinding noise coming off track sessions, they've never given me any reason to want more.

yeah they turn to mush when trying to haul my fat ass down from WFO for turn 1 on Putnam, and on Roebling......after 1 session at Putnam the stockers were toast, they faded so bad I had virtually no brakes.....and they scacred the shit out of me....I dont have that issue anymore....

What HDL said, but at Pergusa and Mugello, and going into turn 1 at Mugello without brakes is no good.

I've never had a bit of fade. When my stock pads were gone I got another set. Still happy.

Maybe you just dont ride it hard enough then Bovine.....of maybe you just arent as picky about your brakes as I am.......on a bike that runs 180 mph, I need to know I can stop it when I need to.......If i am critical about any portion of my bike, its the brakes. My bike might be dirty ( it is) and it might need teh chain lubed( it does), but the brakes will always be perfect, or as near as I can get it.....
My dad, who is an old drag racer from wayyyy back use to tell me, it doesnt matter how fast you can go, it matters how fast you can stop.......

HDL I can see that me and you see eye to eye on this subject!!!!!!!! I reworked my brakes on the 10 before I ever even had the tank off.

I dunno. I put on a 19x20 Brembo and made up a set of lines. I can't find any fault with the rest of it.

Dang you used the 19x20? I'll bet that bitch stops like a mouse on a glue trap! I used a 19x18 ZX636 radial and mine will lift the rear wheel like Bush does Gas prices in a wind storm!

the 19X20 will give a very different feel at the lever than the 19X18......the 19X18 is probably a better feel, with the 19X20 giving more actual stopping power.....line circumfance adn MC piston circumfance all plays a big factor in how the brakes FEEL, as much as how they work....
I dont have the big money to put new MC on my bike.....I am jsut using the stock brake systems with Galfer SSlines, Brakking CM55 pads, and Motul RBF600 fluid.....and they are pretty dang good.....I would like to get my hands on a MC off a new 636 though, I hear they are the shit......but the MC isnt going to help a fade problem.....fade is going to come from 1. the pads heating up and losing their ability to work correctly, or 2. the fluid heating up and boiling.....The lines and the MC are going to help with promarily the FEEL of the brakes.....
Just some thoughts...

"Feel" is the main reason most racers go with the 19x18 or even a smaller piston on the 4 pot dual set-up. I only ever use 1 finger to stop so the 19x20 works for me. The 10r has great feel up to the limit, where it gets pretty damn numb. I get my feel fix from my bike with iron rotors/metal pads. Try that sometime. Get the Braketech Axis iron rotors with sintered pads. I just about blow a load of man cheese every time I hit the lever. The feel...the feeeeeeeeeeeel...

those are the rotors I planned on using on my 10 when and if the time came...I am pretty happy with the brakes as they are, and havent found a need to upgrade the rotors, if I do, those will be the ones.....

It's not just the rotors. You gotta run sintered pads on them. Just say no to organic.
