Un-governed ZX-10 top-speed?

Everyone keeps asking me how fast my bike can go... I tell them its governed at 186mph. I assume it could push 200 all stock... just ungoverned. Has anyone here seen or done such a test? Will it hit 200 stock?

I didn't think the 10 was governed at the standard 186mph,....or was it 184? Either way, I had thought it was a little under that, and *gearing* limited.

You'd have to really under-gear it to reach 200mph.

The ZX-10R has no speed governor (at least not the C-models.)

But it isn't capable stock of exceeding or apparently quite going 186.

Okay...they are governed at 186...they can tecnically go slightly abover that by 1 or 2 mph maybe. This speedo-detected...which means that the actual trap speed is much less. So in other words your speedo will say 180 but your really doing somewhere around 168-169, maybe a little less (166). This is with stock gearing as well. Wind resistance will never let the bike get up to speeds close to 200 without some serious power and gearing. So I would guess the bikes can clock a trap speed of somewhere around 175 with stock gearing, but that is my .02...I can't be sure...I have gotten mine up to 180 on the speedo which is around 168 mph

Why do you say it is governed???

There's more than one guy that's ridden the ZX-10R well over 186 at Maxton, certified speed, without encountering any speed governor. Doug Meyer, who would know, has stated specifically that it is not speed governed. I have never seen a fact, as opposed to unsupported statement, of it being governed.

notjeep; You would need more power and a touch taller gearing than my 12 to get close to or hit 200 mph.

I recall someone on here who dynoed a 10 stating that it was speed limited on the dyno to a dyno indicated 182 and a speedometer indicated 189. I guess by "speed limited" they were stating that the bike had hit redline instead of an ECU controlled speed governor.

the error margin is greater then that, I have regeared my 10 and my speedo reads around 178 at the end of the qtr, however the bike is only running 142-143 mph.

Is there a TRE or Muzzy box that recalibrates the odometer

Oh, if one means that the ECU has an engine redline, yes. But that isn't typically called a speed governor -- as it isn't based on road speed -- and requires no electronic solution, only taller gearing.

Motorad magazine took the 10R to Nardo where it clocked 296 kph which is exactly 184 mph

It is not speed limited in any way other than aerodynamics and hp.

Real world speeds of 190mph have be exceeded on a stock motored 10.

I have had my 10 up to 189mph on the speedo, but my gps mounted to the bike told me my top speed was 178mph. Thats a completely stock 04 zx-10 with a 205lbs. rider on it on the highway in a full tuck. I dont think that a stock 10 would go much faster than 180mph!

184 mph (measured, not tacho mph) with a 130 lbs race pilot in full tuck on it at the Nardo oval

I have taken my 05 10 all the way up to the rev limiter in 6th gear many times. The speedo was indicating 299Kph of course and the tach 13,750rpm. However, when I had it dynoed at a local Fuchs dyno it revealed a true speed of only(?) 287Kph (178mph). Dyno testing was done in 6th gear all the way up to the rev limiter. Another interesting point is that the tach cheats as well! 13,750 rpm corresponds to a true 12,628rpm. By the way, my 10 was dynoed at 160 DIN rwhp. Stock gearing, full Arrow exhaust, DNA air filter, no PC.

Thats sounds about right.. My zx12r with the extended rev limit ECM hit 200mph and then it shut down the dyno brake.. It did it several times.. The extended rev limit ECM allows the bike to red line to about a "true" 12,300 rpm.s I have a full akro system and a pc3r.. The internal gearing on the 12r is also taller.. with taller gearing maybe 3 teeth down in the back the 10r could probably spin the drum to 200mph..

p.s. dynoed at 165 h.p. on Dynojet 150 dyno
