How loud do you want it ? We can make you a Slip-On as quiet as stock (80 dbA) or up to 118 dbA. with the stock header, and anything else in between.

Attenuation (or not) of sound/pressure waves does not necessarily have a direct correlation to horsepower; especially on a stock state-of-tune motor. In all but the most extreme cases, having a core & packing will increase horsepower. Back pressure is your friend.

Can you make something super loud and growly but still keep all them low/mid/high range either the same or slightly better then stock? I want 118dB but not raspy like a D&D and maintains HP or increases in a couple areas.

I have one of Kerrys 15 inch slip ons, with the extreme core. Its not obnoxious, andhas a good sound to it, its loud, I wouldnt want it to be any louder. Kinda sounds like a formula 1 race car when its on the pipe.....

ez - a 18" muffler shell with our "extreme" core would put you in the 95 dbA range. It would be slightly quieter than HDL's 15" Slip-On.

ikez - in a word; no. You're going to sacrifice the power band somewhere when obtaining a 118 dbA range. The powerband can be moved around by making other changes, but all in all, something has to suffer from the lack of back pressure. In case you might not realize it, 118 dbA is within MotoGp type numbers (actually a "quieter" one). 118 dbA will grow old very quickly for both you and those around you. I mean it hurts! It will be much, much louder than a D&D, and more raspy as well. To get a feel for it, simply remove your stock muffler and run it off the straight headpipe/collector. It will be slightly louder than that with some kind of megaphone and/or stepped mid-pipe attached to it.

kb...so if i order an exhaust from you for my new 10r, can you make it quieter or as quiet as the stock exhaust.

i personally prefer a super quiet exhaust. i left my stocker on my 12 for all those years because i didnt want to go loud.

Wifey has a D&D on her CBR 600 she went out riding on Saturday with a friend with a DR-Z400SM with a White Bros system. I don't know who was louder but I could hear them for a long time when they left.I'm sure they would give a Harley a run for its money on the Db meter. I hear there was a D&D equipped Hayabusa at SBW this year that was crazy loud.

beans - yep, more than likely we can do this. Just keep in mind, that our initial offering will be a "Slip-On/Bolt-On" coming off the headpipe (single muffler). So doing away with the cats will increase the exhaust tone in itself slightly. Also, going to a single muffler will increase the exhaust tone. We are also going to R&D a set of Dual mufflers that will be direct replacements for the stockers, for those wishing to keep the "dual muffler" arrangement. This may be a better option for you since two mufflers will attenuate sound better than one (all things being equal).

Of course until I actually get the bike in here, I won't have hard data until then. And as Freek says, hear, hear to you. Anyone can make a loud muffler. Few can make a quiet muffler that still flows well. This is truly the kind of challange we enjoy.

Punching or raming the stock exhaust (removing cat also if course) gave me louder results than the Muzzy oval (full system) stainless steel I have on now..I like the Muzzy better myself..lol

KB -

I need a racing exhaust for my '05 636 that meets the 90 dBa/100yds. Actually, I don't NEED it, but I'd like to chuck the weight in the tail, and I'm probably going to have ECSDyno map my bike this winter.

The bike doesn't have or need the undertail turnsignal stuff.

What have we got?

kz - I'm making Slip-Ons at the moment for the 600/636. But you would drop a huge amount of weight (11 lbs or so). When you say 90 dbA @100 yds, at what rpm? I'm assuming that your asking for a dynamic 90 dbA reading at WFO at a certain point on the track? Please clarify.

If so, the 636 uses a very short muffler on our production Slip-On (9.25"), so obviously it's not the quietest muffler we make... But on a racebike, without regard to turn signals/undertail stuff, we can increase the length a few inches to gain volume (= quieter).

Actually, 90 dbA dynamic @ 100 yds is probably attainable with the standard length muffler and large core. That's kind of a wierd perameter, but fairly generous. There could/would be so much other possible noise contribution to the readings over that distance, I don't see how they could get any consistency in determining who's bike is over or not (unless you all go out individually).

We're at about 103 dbA @ 5000 rpm static 20"/45 degrees with our large core. Which is significantly louder than our other systems (mostly due to muffler length). Unfortunetly, the smaller displacement bikes are harder to control sound on. There are many reasons for the higher frequencies, not just the fact that turn more rpm over an open classer.

So who makes the quietest aftermarket exhaust that is lighter than stock and provides significant hp gains both full system and slip/bolt on?

Exhaust modifications are very low on my list of priorities. The police around here are really cracking down on loud pipes. If I could find a light weight "street legal" can that doesn't cost an arm and both legs an exhaust mod might move up on my list of priorities.

That 'Busa put out 126 decibels if I remember correctly , Canadamaxxer would know for sure though ......

Evander - I make one of the quietest systems on the market, along with some of the louder variety. We offer many choices of muffler shell material, length, core diameter. We manufacture and stock all components and have them ready to go for final assembly depending on what the client is looking for. Our 18" muffler, with 2" core is 2 dbA louder than stock. You would need a meter to tell the difference. It "sounds" the same, but with a different exhaust tone. The stock muffler is primarily a tri-chamber mechanical core. Our's is a high percentage straight thru perforated core with top quality Silent Sport Premium packing material from Germany. It has an extremely high burn rate of 1300 degrees, so it lasts an incredibly long time. I could not imagine anyone getting stopped for a sound infraction with this Slip-On. It weighs about 3 lbs less than stock (carbon/ti). Power gains with this core option are normally in the 3 - 4 hp range. You can visit our website for more info.

Hey, I thought this thread started out asking about the loudest exhaust?

I've had (at least) a couple different versions of the Area P slip-ons on my bike for bout a year now and have never been hassled by the man for them.

I've been running a slightly louder 15" s/o since Feb.

Loud pipes get really annoying on any kind of long ride and really suck on any kind of group rides when yer the one who has to listen to one/them.

I'll call Monday, thanks!

As an aside, I'll be in LA for the Queen/Paul Rogers concert tomorrow, though I missed my chance to get Tut tickets at LACMA.
