New Tires for the 10r, which ones?

Well what is the consensus on tires for our zx10r's? I have the stock tires and they really aren't that bad. But I am looking for something with optimal traction. I hear the pilots, I hear pirelli's, I hear this and that....what are some really good street tires that will give me some grip to rip up the turns? I have not been keeping up with tires so those that can tell me the exact tire would be great! there are so many different pilots, and different pirellis, ect. it gets confusing.

Pilot Powers....my first choice.....on my 2nd set now

I hear good things about the Bridgestone BT014's, and the Metzler M1's. I ran M1's on my ZX12 and got good performance out of them, but not great mileage.

I got 3 trackdays out of the first Pilot Power frontt tire and about 1700 miles on the street. And 2 trackdays and 1700 miles on the street on the rear. I have about 2000 street miles on the current set and they are still at about 75% tread life front and rear. The traction of the Pilots is farr superior to that of the Dunlop 218's. In comparison I got about 1100 miles on the street out of the stock dunlops, with no tracktime.....

tireexpress.com is running specials on the Pilot Powers. I went to the 180/55 on the rear and love the way it handle with it. Turns in very well and has great stability while leaned over. My suspension was originally set up for a 190/55 Supercorsa, so the 190/50 Pilot Power I ran the first time felt a slow on turn in, the 180 feels perfect......

Just my Opinion.....

I say dunlop 208's in 200/50/17 for rear all tha dealers say no it makes it steer more agressive it does.... it turns corners faster then what your use to at first, but after while you notice its better and you get more traction coming out of the corners and if you check specs on the 200 there what is closest to a 190/60 and that is what size all the racers use...but it has to be the dunlop 208 cause all the other manufacts. 200 is just wide with no arch so they dont work the same.

ok someone has lost his mind.....lol

put a 200 on a 10?? maybe for drag racing, maybe..... as for a 200 making the bike turn corners faster....um NOT ! ! !

Racers that are running 190/60's have their bike and suspensions all set up by proffessionals and have the steering geometry altered to make use of that size tire. Even on the ZX12R that comes with a 200 from the factory, when you go to a 190 the turn in is better with more stability leaned over......Very few of the 12 guys are still running 200 series rubber if they turn corners very often. Not to mention the cost of a 200 is crazy.....

And as far as ride heigth goes, a 190/55 woudl be a taller tire than a 200/50 anyway....

Sounds like its time for a poll.....let the people speak their opinions......lol

for drag racing you put a smaller tire cause you will get more speed thats why on 12s most people go smaller cause most people drag 12s.. but i can see you never been to the drag strip or know anyone who does! and yes a 190/55 is close to the size also but that size only comes in bridgestones but the dunlops are sticker and if you knew any thing bout the construction of the 208s you would know that 200 is not any wider then anyone elses 190 but is taller and has more arch than dunlops 190/50 in the 208

let me break down tire measurements for yous..example: car tire a 205/60/15 and 195/65/15 now these 2 tire have the same outer hieght but with one do you think would more stable i would think the 205/60/15 cause it has more contact path rite cause its is alittle wider contact path....now bike 190/55/17 and 200/50/17 same height but 200 has more contact so with one would be more stable?

200's are useless, even on a 12R or Busa. And Dunlops suck more ass than a queer in North Hollywood.

The best tires you can buy are the PIRELLI DIABLO CORSAS - period. I ride like a total asshole and I've tried every tire they make. The only ones that take all of the abuse I can throw at them are the Pirellis. They'll only last 3500 miles or so but it's cheaper than buying plastics if you ride hard.

Just remember though, no matter what you buy, forget the Dunlops. They are absolute shit.

IMHO the best "street" tire is the Bridgestone BT-014. Great grip for aggressive canyon carving and longevity. Pay close attention to your pressure. I run mine at 32 front and 35 rear.

aren't diablo corsas meant for the track? I need a tire that will run in street condition and be super sticky. I would be interested in the corsas but all i ever hear is how not to get track tires for the street since they wont work at optimal riding temps.

Diablo Corsa is a Supersport tire, mostly a street tire, with trackability. Its good one for trackdays for all but the fastest of riders. Its in the same catagory as the Pilot Powers, and the BT012SS's the BT 014's, the Metzler M1 Sportec, Dunlop 208/218 series, and a few others.

Personally I dont liek the 208's, but as far as any of the others listed, you cant go wrong.

I've got a set of 208's and they seem to slide at weird times, like when you don't think you are going to slide. I think the Pilot powers will be my next choice.

I just didnt like the feel the 208's gave the bike, made it a bit twitchy....Like I said, my favorites so far have been the Supercorsas, but they arent practicle to ride on the street, at their price. I can run the powers on the track and street and get almost as good of traction, and MUCH better mileage out of them

Just got back from about 90 miles of canyon riding on my new Michelin Pilot Powers. I think they make the bike feel twitchy. I think that is due to how tall and skinny the front one is. If I don't get use to it by the time the back one wears out I'm going to switch to the Dunlop 208ZR next. The 208ZR front tire is very wide and short which should slow down the handling on the short wheel base ZX10. The Dunlop 208ZRs are also much cheaper, $189 set from Chaparral Motorsports with I think free shipping.

try it, ya might like the tires then....I havent found a better street tire than the Pilot Powers....might start with taking the shim out of the rear, then playing with the front ride heigth.....

Those tires are great on my ZRX1200, with its longer wheel base and slower handling
characteristics.
