New Experience getting Punted. So I'm sitting at a stop light Sunday and I get punted from behind. Luckily I was hanging onto the bars and leaning forward, so I didn't fall off or drop the bike. But it was a pretty good jolt.
So I turn around and look at this nitwit, and it's classic; an older lady in a new 500 series MBZ (no plate). I cannot believe someone can be this stupid. Now these teenagers in a truck next to her start calling her all kinds of vulgar names and such and many of them refering to her ethnic background. Bless their hearts for sticking up for a biker, but they weren't helping....
So I get off the bike and start walking back to her, she puts it in reverse, rolls up her windows, and raises her hands trying to apologize. I tell the kids in the truck to f-off and split as they are not helping and they are scarying the crap out of this lady. By now I'm getting kinda aggitated myself...
The light turns green, traffic is building, I'm ok, the bike is undamaged, so I cut her a break and move on. Next light, she stops a little too close for comfort; which for me is at least 5'. Can you believe this? Now I'm pissed. I get off the bike again in traffic and she put's up her hands, and starts backing up again. I do the flip her off thing and get back on the bike and continue home. I could have followed her, but somehow I imagined this would get turned around to me being the bad guy, since the only "witnesses" are the kids I told to f-off.
I get home, call the cops, and here's the perfect ending to this. "If there is no injury, we can't do anything about it and/or take a report." "In addition, you didn't get a license so there is nothing we can do." Un-f-ing believable! It does tend to make one want to take matters completely into one's own hands next time something as bizzare as this takes place. And it may not be pretty.....
Keep your eyes open when stopping or being stopped at a light. Just when you think everyone is stopping behind you, some dumb-ass can suprise you.

KB,
puts up a good argument for lane splitting! and moving to the front with a little protection from "some brain dead moron" saw a good one just recently that went like this.
Some people are only alive because its against the law to shoot them.
Any escape is a lucky one. PS how goes the business making any headway?

You needed to give her a friendly lecture on how she could really hurt someone the next time. She probably could not judge how far out the front end sticks out and the bike was probably impossible for her to judge. Hence the second close call.At least you and your bike weren't hurt. but someone is next. The sad part is she just doesn't realize.

I have a 5 step program to solve your problem.
1. Pull clutch lever all the way in.
2. Shift into 1st gear.
3. Roll bike back until your tire is touching the car's bumper.
4. Squeeze front brake as hard as you can.
5. Rev the bike up to 8k or so and let go of the clutch.

Lane splitting would likely mean that she woulda scraped up alongside of him instead of givin him a love tap.
Pretty amazing how some folks don't equate bikers as people until they get off the bike.
It's unfortunate that with todays policy and procedures, it's almpst better to hit or be hit than avoid or maintain control of yer bike in theses types of situations.
Glad it wasn't any worse - we all know it could've been.

Well unfortunetly in this case, I was at the head of the line. So no need to lane split.
Actually D, you bring up a good point. When I got off the bike is when she got really scared. I guess it's the same when someone stops their car and gets out. That's when the "pucker" factor starts up and you know the person more than likely means business.
But I'll probably never know what actually scared her the most; actually tapping me, me getting off the bike and walking back to her, or the kids in the truck screaming vile things at her. I must admit though, I do still watch out for her and her car (burned into the memory banks...) and actually saw her last week across an intersection. So what would I do about it? Really not sure....

If you are seeing her, eventually se will have a license number. Calling the cops and telling them your story (with a number) may prompt them to sent her a note or something to remind her that they are aware of what transpired and that may scare her into being more cautious.

Reminds me of one of the scariest moments I had since returning to motorcycling...
Coming down an off ramp from a state highway. Watched as a car turns ONTO the offramp, and comes up the OFFRAMP towards me. I veer over to the far left and watch as the car goes past me, up to the top of the OFFRAMP, brakes, and then turns around. I flag down the octegenarian, ask him to pull over and turn off his car, then call the state patrol. Waited around till they showed up, and considered it ' a good day not to get mowed down by a fucking senile goober that keeps asking me "Is this the way to town?"...'. ____________
