Who is going to wreck the first 2006 ZX-10R?

...well, it's not going to be me. But I am going to the bank next week to pull some cash and put a deposit down and secure a new 10R as soon as I can get one. Who else is in?

Ok, here is the thing...about the new ZX-10R.

When I first saw the pics yesterday, I nearly puked. Gross! This thing looks hideous. I sincerely mean this when I say I felt sick to my stomach, just didnt know what the hell Mr. Kawi was thinking. Whatever!

Last night, I was talking to LRG off the forum around two in the morning, and I was posting up the 60 some pictures of the 10R, and we were going through the pics and it slowly started to grow on me.

Now, I absolutely love that bike! In so many ways.

I was looking at the 2005 R1, and it is the same way, the exhaust looks too big because of the silver heat shields surrounding it, hell just remove those and put some aftermarket pipes and you're set on the rear setup. Rumors in the exhaust market is that they pipes can be flanged on (not springed on) so you may see normal side exhausts still made for it, which will connect with an included passenger footpeg/exhaust bracket.

The front of the new 10R...those bulbs I think are halogen (not HID), but I dont know for sure. I think we are all use to larger headlights, but that looks sick.

Speaking of asthetics: When the 999 first came out, I hated it! When the 05 GSXR1000 came out, I hated it! But once I saw them in person, and it grew on me, I love them both now!

For the 10R to address so many changes after a two year run, keep in mind this is a fourth generation model, Kawi has stepped up to the plate and handled every complaint or negative remark with this bike.

I quote LRG when I say "This new 10R looks fucking cool!"

Wait a couple more weeks till the dealer show and see what the specs say. If it isn't better by a long shot then save some cash and grab an 05.

This is one thing about the new "every 2 years" cycle that may backfire on the manufacturers: sure this D model is brand new and almost certainly will be cool, BUT now we know an all-new E model will be out in only 2 years!

Not that much wait to skip to the next generation!

Used to be you'd never conceive skipping over a generation -- no clue how long that could be and could easily be 5 years or even more -- when the new one came out. Now, it can be a perfectly reasonable thing to do if your present ride is still and great shape and you like it.

I expect it is going to represent a nice improvement but will not "kill" the present 10, and simply putting a few bucks into a present 10 would give an equally good-performing bike most likely. So the new model is a great option but probably not "mandatory" as a guess.

Since mine will be a track bike, there's a good chance I'll be the first to wreck. But I'll have track plastic and frame savers installed to limit damage.

yep .... i picked mine up last weekend and put 400 miles on it. The front end is SICK, from the bak view its sick from the top down its sick however from the right side the profile is left lacking when u have a direct side view which is 90% of the pictures ive seen on the internet. I ran into a club Suzuki meat with the host of regular 1000 new & old, 750 busas and so on .... they all were black, grey, and blue....there was the zx10r right in the middle like a magnet with that sick looking design and team green saying Lets Race !! without movig an inch ... the other kind of blended in with each other.... and I owned and Loved a 04 Blue GSXR750, three r1, 98 CBR900 and son
