Freddy Spencer high performance riding school .....
Freddy Spencer high performance riding school .....
There is so much to say about this school words can't do it justice but I'll try.
My goals for the class were to be able to ride faster in the turns, be safer and be more comfortable at speed. Any one can twist the throttle in straight line.
I've jumped from a CBR600 F4 to a ZX10R this past year so I thought some technique would be in order. Don't get me wrong I grew up on dirt bikes and have been riding the wheels off that 600 for 3 or 4 years. But confidence at speed is key.
Day one,
We discussed running the correct line, apex's, body position, smoothness of controls, trail breaking... and more but I couldn't retain it all.
MSF teaches you to not use your breaks in a turn. The exact opposite of what Freddy teaches. So I was really hesitant to try and use my breaks all the way through a turn but I did more and more as the day went on and boy I couldn't believe how far I was leaned over using my brakes let alone my front breaks!
One instructor followed each rider around the track for 1 lap man was that humbling and discouraging at the same time. Watching this I'm thinking I have no idea how to ride a motorcycle.
Day two,
We used split the track in the am one worked on body position the other cornering the apex's...
Well I got the body position down but by the time that was done I was beat down...
When we started doing the cornering/apex drills I was fading which sucked big time I hit turn one too hot, not thinking straight and went off the track.
This was especially embarrassing because this kid Jason Disalvo was there riding the shit out of the track and I kind F'ed up his line/lap...
After that I took a break to refuel my body fat white boy in the desert what did I think was going to happen oh well.
Once my break was done they went back to the full track and started video taping again.
This was pretty cool we got moving it was a hoot the instructors would follow and give pointers etc... It was pretty cool stuff.
The day 2 vid compared to day 1 is night and day. I love chicanes!!!!!!
Day 2 I went from running off the track in the morning to dragging both knee's in the afternoon!!!!! Dragging my knees for the first time was a rush I was as giddy as a school girl all night!!!
All in all the school was a great experience for me I plan to practice what I learned this year at the track and head back for level 2 next year.
To go from not being comfortable using the front brakes in a turn to dragging my knee's in two days speaks volumes for the school itself.
I thought I was good rider until going there I realized I was squid. Oh well not any more.

I woudl love to do that class, but its too far and too much money for my lowly paycheck, I could go to anyone of a dozen other schools for tha tprice, and get a few trackdays in of practice afterwards. But like I said I woudl love to go......
