Need some advice...

I am on the virge of purchasing a 2005 crimson red ZX-10R. I am asking for some advice before I entertain the purchase of this motorcycle.

My current options are either purchasing a brand new 2005 ZX-10R, or purchasing a used one. In regards to a used one, I am heavy towards the blue and black versions of the 2004 model year.

Then to throw another monkey wrench into the equation, a riding buddy of mine is selling his 2005 red ZX-10R and for an amazingly good deal but there is a story to it...

2005 ZX-10R with about 600 miles on it, and it was low-sided/wrecked one early cold morning here in Spokane a few weeks back. He took it to the dealer (Westside) and they insurance claimed out all the broken parts on it. Mainly it was just cosmetic/plastic. I guess even his boot slighly grazed the top of the gas tank so they just went ahead and got a new one of these. According to the shop that worked on it, the bike is really in just like new condition.

The guy sold off all of his extra parts, like steering dampener. The only mods to the bike are the European front and rear integrated turn signal blinkers. He still has the OEM stock stuff.

A word on that first 600 miles, I know the break in period was NOT adhered to. Wheelied of course, and riden not too hard, but harder than I would have in those first miles.

The title is still clean. Again, it is wrecked though. I guess someone pulled out in front of him on an early cold morning and he had to lay the bike down to avoid hitting the car, was going less than 20mph. Replacement parts I know included the gas tank, the clip ons and handle bars, various plastics, and the kickstand. Again, it is just like new condition.

He is asking a firm $8500 for it. My thoughts is for another 1500 I can get a brand new bike off the showroom floor that has not been wrecked. But is it worth it, or should I save a few dollars and jump on this deal. Or is this bike even worth that much? He is very firm on that 8500 price, but is it worth it?

Educate me all you experienced out there. On a side note, I am keeping my 12.

Don't buy it. If it has a wrecked title, where's the liability?

The title is not a salvage title. Insurance did not total the bike out. He just filed a claim and they fixed it. He has had the bike for less than 3 months now. But again, the title is still clean and insurable.

would buy the new one for the 1500 more, if he won't move to a lower price like 7500.00 cash buy the new one never know if there is any kind of frame damage or something you can't see are you getting the fac wor with the bike? and did he buy a extended wor? transferable to you

I would buy the extended warranty no matter what though.

Keep in mind, I'm not trying to argue either which way, I'm just providing more info in response to everyone's comments.

It's a good deal for sure, if the title is clean not a salvage and you can get the exd warranty
than go for it ,I'm just a little finicky when it comes to my bike I like to know that it was taken care of not abused, but if you are going to race the bike than who cares

For only 1500 difference , forget it .At the very least you'll find bent brackets later on , stuff that just doesn't fit quite right and be annoyed about it every time you service something . To make ot worth your while it has to be an awesome deal to where you don't care . As opposed to trying to forget it was crashed before .

i dont see why u'd want to buy another bike beans.
a) u already have a 12
b) u'll jsut sell it in the fall when the 06 comes out

IMO i would jsut keep ridin urs for now, then consider buyin the 06 for next year.

well freek, I do love my 12. But when it comes to the slow-speed tight twisties, I'm tired of not being able to keep up. We all cant ride the 12 like Dino! I was torn between the new 6R and the 10R. I felt the 6R had more usable midrange power for the tight stuff, but throw on another 25 pounds and the 10r overcame it with the obviously better power band.

My goal this summer was to break the 45k mark on the 12 and be able to BEAT ANYONE up and down Spiral Highway. And I dont see that happening on the 12.

I dont know...I am in more of a quandry then any previous physics question.

doh! sorry beans i'm goin blind, or just (more) stupid. i thought u were talkin about gettin another 12. suppose this being in the 10r forum should have been a clue?

i'd say go for the 636. cheaper (to buy and for tires), uses less gas, and in some ways is a better bike for the street.

dino, assuming you come to this site as bikeland.org, go to http://www.bikeland.org/board/cookieclear.php and http://bikeland.org/board/cookieclear.php then login fresh. that usually fixes the problem with it not logging u in automatically.

would recommend always using the same url to access the site. if you do, switching forums shoudl ahve nothing to do with it.
