A question for everyone... what was THE FIRST "naked bike"? So a bunch of us were sitting around last night, and someone asked "what was the first naked bike?" .. .we started talking about it... it seems that this question may be harder to answer than we initially thought... finally one of the people said... "damn.. why not ask everyone out there and see if we can get an answer!" ... so here I am asking everyone...
What was the first "naked" bike?
Help us out!

I think that the first mainstream bike with full plastic was the '83 VFR . (I still can't believe that I sold a perfectly good and much superior Ducati to buy that piece of shit). By '84 everyone was on the racer replica bandwagon so after that , the first one to have been originally released with full body and then lose it (which would to me be changing it into a naked bike) would have been the Bandit series.
GSXR->Bandit.

Well technically..... The 83-85 was a VF750 Interceptor with just a bikini fairing and belly fairing. I don't believe it came with full body work until 1986, when it changed to the VFR. But I could be wrong obwonkonobe...
Oh, and I bought one of those relics too when it came out. Ohhh, got to have a V4... Traded a perfectly sorted out 82 GPZ750 for it. I think the VF got recalled when the cams or tappets/rockers wore out instantly..... Shoulda kept the Kaw...

Oh man, the '82 GPz750 was my first Kawasaki. Traded in my '78 GS1000 on it. What a great bike, could ride that thing all day...But my next one after the GPz was my first Ninja...

I would say back in the 80's when they started putting plastic on the bikes who know's what bike it was.
Most likley someone broke their plastic and thought it looked good without it.
It could be like k bryant said the old honda.
Me myself I don't like the naked bike my first bike was the 500H1 and then the KZ1000 which had no fairing or cowling and liked the cafe racer look.

Yes, KB U B right. I guess it falls in with the Gpz's , or one could go back to the Z1-R.
Fish- If you want to pose a question you have to set the "parameters"........

Doug... I dont "have to" do anything .. BTW .. you "have to" email the info I need so I can complete yer "thing".....
as for the parameters,,, we cant even agree on that... XL, KB and myself spent a good chunk of time today debating the definition of a standard, a naked bike, and a streetfighter... I simply cant agree with XL's defintion of a streetfighter...
So.. let's backtrack a bit here and define what those bikes are first.... then we'll put it apart...
PS.. dont blame me... blame "hotshoes" and several glasses of merlot for this topic ____________ What business is it of yours where I'm from, Friendo?

I believe most consider the GPz's (81' GPz550) to be the first "sportbike" out of Japan. But if you want to get technical, as Doug mentioned the 78' Z1-R was actually THE first.

When you were born the Dr. slapped your ass and he didn't take any clothes off of you first because you were already naked.
would "factory built street fighter" be a more accurate term?
Has any manufacturer ever built and sold to the public a full on sport bike without its plastic?
Say a ZX9R without the body work, but every other part still being the same? Same engine, frame, wheeels, brakes, exhaust, etc?
I can't remember any. Ducati probably comes closest.
