can't help but wonder if those cases are preceded by damage due to a crash or even a tip over at some point in the past.

well... that's what some people pointed out... hard to say if peg was stressed in some way from a previous "event"...

I switched my set out for some Giles Rearsets.
Not that I do many standups, however.

Fish, the one I was telling you about at SBW was a brand new bike, I think about the third or fourth time the guy was out...
He was just riding down the Earls Cove road and kablooy it snapped about 1 1/2 inches in from the outside end, left peg..

I saw the same bike Silver mentioned on on the Langdale to Horseshoe Bay ferry a few months ago. It was in the back of a pickup truck. Brand new black ZX-10r; messed up pretty good. The driver said it was his buddy who recently bought the bike and only been out for a few rides with it. The rider was just putting his weight on the peg going around a corner and it snapped off, which ended up with him the bike lowsiding. The rider is around 200lbs or so but I don't think it should break off even at that weight. He was going to check with Kawasaki for warranty because it was normal riding.

Yup, I know both the guys you're talking about and was there.
That wasn't the best of days, two bikes got written off on that ride, the one you saw and a 636, although the 636 was able to be ridden away, tuff dude that 636 rider, lucky he didn't break anything on himself!!
Quite funny in one way, as the same ambulance attended to both, but didn't appear to figure out we were the same group!!

The 10R and 6R pegs have a tendency to break when dragged hard through a corner with the feeler bolts off. I've broken them mid corner on track.
I got a set of adjustable rear sets to solve the problem. The extra ground clearance allowed by the rear sets isn't bad either.
