Down in the bay Hanging out for the week in Sunnyvale. Closest hotel corp could book us in was the Crown Plaza in Milpitas. Hey, at least you can see the mountains from the 11th floor. Man, it's nice to be able to ride around in low 60s in November! And it's *not* raining! One thing for sure, there's lots less traffic than there was back in '98 - 99. Gotta get the 10R to a car wash, the trip down from Washington has left a thick layer of road grime over the entire bike.

swft..........DON'T leave the Bay Area without riding HWY 9 from Los Gatos to Santa Cruz. I'll guess you are taking 237 ( MT. View RD ) over to Sunnyvale for work. Leaving Sunnyvale take 237 down to 85........85 down to Hwy 17 .......17 South to Los Gatos where you will see the signs for HWY 9. Take HWY 9 down to Santa Cruz and have a dog on the boardwalk and think about riding farther south to Monterey.
Ya gotta make the 9 to Santa Cruz ride........... ____________

And you may want to stop in Los Gatos at the Ferrari dealership. Snap some pics or go for a test drive............ ____________

Another great ride is to take 9 as suggested, but at the top (Parking area on the left, stop sign) Hang a right on Skyline Blvd. Killer views, flowing fast corners, lots of fun. You'll eventually come up to Alice's Restaurant on the left and a little stop and go on the right that WILL have other riders stopping to chat and such GUARANTEED. One of the most famous gathering spots in the area during the summer. Sundays are ridiculous. Anyway, from there, head on to 84 to La Honda and take it down to the coast. There are some cool jaunts off 84, but it would be way easy to get you lost. Just take it to Hwy 1 head south to Santa Cruz where you can get back on 9 and head home. Killer stuff.

Yep.......do both if you can. I had to stop in that parking lot top shelf..........to let my wife puke! We were on our way back up from Santa Cruz. Plan was to take her to Alice's.........never made it
By the way........we were in a S2000 Honda.....not on the bikes........ ____________

Alice's is great swft.........just like top shelf said. You can go either way but you have got to make that loop. A bunch of us rode up there one morning ( this was in the early 80's )............when we got there a guy had his TZ 750 leaned against a telephone pole like nothing was out of the ordinary.......... LOTS of bikes and people on Sundays. From mild to wild. Exotic cars too.........Jay Leno once and a while........Randy Mamola........

uh.. I beg to differ... Alice's may be a good stopping point, but IMHO everytime I've been there the food sucked.. the Mexican joint 20 miles south is waaaaaaaaay better (the one with the trees inside it).. I'll dig up the name..

Oh man all you guys are making me homesick...... I grew up in Redwood City, Woodside Road area. Just below Skyline, Alices, etc. I was a full-on street squid attacking anything and everything that even remotely looked like a corner (or a race...). I was doing 200 miles every night, and 500 + on the weekends up their between Alice's, Hwy 9, Hwy 1, Page Mill, Boulder Creek, Empire Grade, La Honda, and so many others on my 850 Norton, then Z1. Left a lot of metal, skin, and memories on those roads, along with too many breakfasts to remember at Alice's in the 70's. When I got too fast for my own good, a guy named Vance Breese (now owner of Santa Maria H-D) took me aside and basically told me he was gonna kick my ass if I did not get off "the hill" and onto the track. One session at Sears Point is all it took. I was off the street, and on the track basically full time for the next 13 years. I think Vance probably saved my life at that point in time....

The way the conference is wrapping up, I should be able to get some riding in Friday, if the weather holds out ok. Course, being from the NW, I'm not skeered off by a lil rain.

He also became the AFM pres for some years.
Vance was riding his champion framed HD at the time i came across him one sunday @ Alices and we took a nice leisurely ride to one of his fav roads and just like you he advised me to try roadracing, so again like you i did in 1976 and yes i raced in the very same Superstreet class you were in Mr KB.........who da thunk.
