Review of OPP Racing carbon Fiber Hugger

I thought I would start a new post on this topic.

As some of you know I decided to be the first to try OPP carbon for our bikes. Some people state that they had a bad experence with them in the past. (like 1 person)

Anyway I ordered a carbon hugger for $175.00 from OPP racing http://www.oppracing.com/bodywork.php?id=56

After a bit of a wait I have it waiting for me at my house when I got back from biketoberfest. Open it up and...

It looks very nice. The Carbon Fiber Sheets are laid very nice. The item is very thin just as Patrick described. I do not think it would survive much of an inpact from a rocks or something. I am not sure how much abuse the plastic hugger takes (not much I am thinking as many bikes do not even come with them).

I was concerned that it would look 'flat' it does not at all IMO. It is very glossy but not too much so it does not look like fake carbon fiber.

HOWEVER, there were a couple of problems that I did not like. One is there is an area about an inch long and a 1/4 wide that seems to have no clear coating, it is just raw fiber and does not look good. There is another scratch in it about an inch long, the scratch is very thin and not as noticable as the unfished part.

All the mounting holes have to be drilled out. No big deal the holes are marked with detents and are easy to drill out. The wheel does need to be removed (mabey just slid back) to gain access to one of the holes. It mounted up easy with no problems. It does have a slight lean to it when viewed from the rear. It is hardly noticable and I bet the factory one leans a bit as well. I do not think anyone will notice. If it really starts to bother me it will not be hard to shim it true.

Overall I recommend this part and say that dealing with http://www.oppracing.com/bodywork.php?id=56 was easy. They do not take credit cards on the website so you will have to sctually speak with someone to complete your order (how old school)

So for the guy how didn't think that OPP treated him well, it seems like an isolated occurance. they did me fine.

I do not think that I will get the front spoilier as I was thinking. It would be good for racing but I do not think it would be good enough for the street.

Here are some pics

On the top picture you can see the area that is unfinished.

It is the line that looks like a 'V'

Does it have more tire clearance than the stock piece?

No it is the same as stock.

You could use some washers under the top screws and elongate the side holes a bit and raise it up for your 180

But you can do that with the stock as well

Not sure what the logic is of not drilling the holes for the customer?
I'm prototyping (Area P) front fender & rear hugger now. Prices will be in the $150 area for the Hugger. $175 for the Front Fender. Pre-preg, autoclaved, 2 or 4 twill pattern. All mounting holes will be drilled for easy bolt-on installation. Hope to have them in stock by mid December.

You can add me to the list of guys who bought from OPP and had a bad experience. That guy patrick is a as#*&^% who does not stand behind his companies return policy. This guy will give you the runaround about returning goods. My advice to everyone is not buy from this company, cause you don't need a headache.I may have been one of many he's done this to,but I WILL get my money back from OPP,thats what lawyers are for.

Hi Gixxer-thou. At OPP, we strive to provide top quality products at competitive prices. We're not sure who you are or what your concern is but we welcome feedback from our customers. You can call us at (604) 942-6744. As for our return policy, we have a 10-day return policy (although we do not accept bodywork that has been drilled/modified/cut/mounted after receipt by the customer). We are sorry you had a bad experience but if you give us a call, we can work together to solve your problem. Thanks - OPP.

Just to update everyone

I ordered the front fender today.

I think the Carbon Fibre looks great and the fender would look sweet on my bike.

Patrick assures me that it will hold up to some street abuse (use?)

Anyway I will let everyone know how it looks once I get it.
