posted October 01, 2004 08:43 AM ZX10 Guy- This is the first time I have seen this thread. Please contact me direct. rob@muzzys.com or 541-385-0706. I am very concerned about your experience with our frame sliders. We designed these with best intent however you must understand we dont do crash testing. Information from you will help us improve the product.

Badboy says:
Beware these sliders are for looks and not safety.
Beware if you are testing a pair of these for Muzzys.

People have had bad experiences (wrecked bikes) and hopefully no-one has been hurt as too date.

We really need Ralph Nader the Consumer fight back guy now!

Cool... thanks for the head's up.... . If Rob sends me a set I'll gladly test them! Is this a serious offer badboy? I didnt know that you were working for Muzzys! Excellent!

How many sets of sliders is muzzy offering for testing? I'm sure there are thousands of members here who would jump at the chance to be a part of an official test!

I'm surprised that Muzzy would hire you after all of the trash talk you've spread about them.

We were beginning to think that you had a personal beef with the company, but I guess not.

I'd mount them for a test in the unforseen event that I do happen to crash. I'm sure they would offer some improvement over not having any at all. But my god, you can't possibly expect them to offer miracle no damage/minimal damage with all the possible dynamics involved in a crash. Hell, I'd be happy if they simply saved a little damage in the event the bike fell over in a parking lot! I sure as hell would not go on a crusade of litigation if they did not prevent major damage in the event of a crash... Rob or anyone else could not possibly duplicate all the possible scenerios... Christ, he cares enough to respond responsibly to the circumstances. Give him some credit!

"Mishap" (as pointed out on the Muzzy site), that could sure mean a lot of things. Understanding the dynamics possible in a "crash", a "mishap" to me means a tip over in a parking lot, or maybe a real slow lowside (ie: 5 mph bumper kinda deal like on a car). But I won't debate the fact that someone with less experience or common sense (no offense intended to anyone) might think they would offer somekind of miracle protection.

I have personally crash tested several different brands of bikes (not on purpose...) that had various brands of "Frame Sliders". In a "fighting all the way lowside" (ie; trying to save it until we are both on the ground), the damage was lessened. Obviously the initial "impact" was not as dramatic or violent. In the event of a high-side, the damage was extensive., because of the violent/heavy impact from a greater distance (ie: little resistance to saving it).

If you want to save your bike from damage, leave it parked in the garage. Or maybe build some crash bars like the stunters use. Those seem to save their bikes from extensive damage.
