Giant UPS Rant... they let this website down bigtime..

Well.... we just got back from Sportbikewest... We were one of the sponsors of the event. Redelk made a new banner for us and some promotional material. We had it shipped overnite UPS to the hotel where we were going to stay.

PrincessKiwi, freek and I show up Friday afternoon... parcel should have been there Friday 10:30am...

no parcel .... I didnt bring the tracking number... (well .. guess that serves me right but it wouldnt have helped.. .listen to this)...

first off.. .idiots at UPS can't check ANYTHING if you dont have a traking #... how pathetic is that? Next... Redelk is at the races.. he cant send me the tracking number either ... (Sportbikewest is about 500miles from my house) ...

So.. I get home last night... check the tracking number online .... frigging parcel is 20 miles from my house in a UPS shipping "hub" waiting to be sent on the next 500 mile leg... I call UPS... guess what...

The fuckers can SELL you overnite shipping to Oliver, BC... but they DONT DO OVERNITE to Oliver. BC... (Oh... oooops.. did they forget to mention that?? ) Internally they have it scheduled to arrive at 10:30am Wednesday morning ..!!! WEDNESDAY!!!! ...

so we sat there... no banners.. no signage...

thanks UPS ... they now say "too bad"... and "this isnt worthy of a refund"....

...

right....

UPS will never EVER get another penny from me or this website.

arrrrggghhhhhhhh.

We could've just gone to Canadian Tire and bought a bed sheet and a can of spray paint.

Everyone would've thought we were part of the 5th Gear group.

It's a joke, Bill!!!

I love UPS. The drivers actually behave as though you and your business matter. Fucking FedX drivers in San Diego are about 90% bitchy homosexuals. This is true, not some ill-focused rant. Besides working with them for the last 15 years, my neighbors work there and I've been to a few of the parties. The same kind of corporate BS is going to happen with any shipping company. You want some more dirt on UPS? Ever hear of a virtual scan? That's where they assume your package is with the rest of the pile it started in and report false tracking data. I could give you more ammo to fuel your UPS rant, or I could share some of FedX's dark secrets. What you guys need to do is grow the fuck up and do your homework on critical shipments, kinda like businesspeople. Then you won't get that "cry like a bitch" consumer attitude when shit goes south. Oops, that was little harsh. Never mind.

What's a little harsh is the lack of what is between your ears, bovine... research WAS done... UPS told us they would guaranty the parcel would be delivered by Friday at 10:30am... That's pretty clear. Not much to misunderstand there...

I suppose that perhaps you have some "reading comprehension issues" and missed that part of the post. .... no worries though.... He... why should someone be pissed when they contract someone to do something by a certain time ....

Who was the idiot who (looked like) put his fist thru the wall in the men's bog? Prime candidate for "Too stupid to live".

Re, FedEx vs UPS. I'm not going to stick up for either company, but I do know that UPS is/was a horror show for international shipments.

And as far as "false scans", it would be more work to try to pull that off (at FedEx) than to just do the routine scanning and pocket the package. Mind you, that was a few years ago. FedEx adopted (in Canada) the UPS philosphy of quantity over quality about a year before I left there. The staff, and clients didn't like this change. It once was a great company to work for.

DHL is making a big push into North America now. They bought Loomis just for the licenses Loomis has to operate thru out Canada and they probably bought out lots of Courier companies in the US for the same reason. They've been huge in Europe for years.

That sucks, fish! They promised and didn't deliver, there is no way anyone could fault you here.

I have had a lot of "inexplicable" things like this happen with UPS. For no good reason, my overnight package just doesn't get there (or I learn after the fact that they don't have overnight to this particular destination). It's lost, "delayed", etc, etc. UPS does not have very tight processes on the sales/processing end, either. I am sure their logistics are top notch, but the old adage is "shit in, shit out", right? What is in between doesn't matter if you have a dolt running the front end processes.

I ALWAYS as a matter of business use Airborne or FedEx as a product of my experiences. Never had such a problem with them, in fact, I have AVOIDED such problems because their processes are tight enough up front to catch stupid problems like this.

Well then. You sure told us.
wOw I DO feel stupid. Geez thanks for teaching me the errors of my ways. Here I normally just pay for service without actually making sure I know what I'm paying for. naturally Fish is the same. Why some times I even go to a gas station pump some gas, and simply throw the attendant a $500 dollar bill. I'm sure that would cover it.

Geez, and I thought that being in the "manufacturing business" for 28 years and shipping globally (Middle East, Asia, SA, EU...) I was "like business people". I guess not. Actually, I normally prefer shipping USPS to Canada since the canook customs is so screwed up and will sometime hold a package forever. Not to mention their BS duty fees.

We have been a daily shipper with UPS since they opened their first hub here in the state. My relationship with those employed within all levels of UPS have provided me with "plenty of dirt" so I really won't be in the need of any additional "dirt". Thanks for the offer though. We've had a similar relationship with FedEx when some investors from Little Rock and other areas just had a few planes sitting at the Memphis airport and even before they offered "ZAP mail" (faxes).

Due to production issues at our facility (we're in the middle of a "political season"), USPS 2-3 day delivery would not work. As an alternative the USPS for shipments to Canada, I prefer FedEx. Of course, the FedEx International Next Flight rate was a tad too pricey for the client and their International Priority could not insure an overnight delivery since the destination was not a "major business center".

On the other hand, even with UPS assuring me that it would be there overnight using their Worldwide Express (WE Plus would not be necessary since it was not going overseas), I still kinda doubted it. UPS does have a disclaimer that it might take two business days to some locations. Since our shipping department had already done the UPS End of Day, I couldn't change it to a Saturday delivery. "Oh well", I thought. I guess the worst case would be that it would arrive there Monday... after Fish had already left. So be it. Not a whole lot I can do about at that time. To be honest, getting our race team ready for their departure was a tad more important to me personally. So much for being "professional", eh?

Well, I can also guess that it might not be "so be it". Four buisness days is still beyond the promised one to two business day delivery. Not that I have not had this happen using FedEx, DHL, Airborne or even Delta DASH... because I have. On many more times than just one or two occasions. It's the nature of international shipping. Critical or not. Canada is enough of a bitch to send product to in itself. Obviously, "rural Canada" is even worse. My problem is the simple ignorance of being a manufacturer that deals mostly with other manufacturers, businesses and governments that usually are not located in "remote and rural" areas of other countries.

Sure, Fish could have "bucked up" and spend the extra cash for Next Flight or WE Plus, but it is very likely that we would have been dealing with similar issues. I guess if there was true blame to be placed here it would be with me to manufacture a product in a timely manner where shipping would not be an issue. Of course that might also have something to do with how I prioritize "donations" versus "paying customers".

Just like real business people do.

I am not a big fan of Fed Ex either. I shipped a body panel to Brett to be painted and shipped it overnight. Th ebody panel got delivered, to the wrong side of town, to and address that wasnt even close to the one that it was suppose to go to. When I called Fed Ex they said they would have it picked back up and delivered to the right address, IF the person that received it would admitt they got it and give it back.
It took me calling that guy from Myrtle Beach, and Brett calling the house, and going there and asking in person....they told him that they didnt have it......then the next morning it mysteriously showed up on his door step.....osmeone was doing some shady shit in Fed Ex......

More like the Receiver of the package being the shady one.

I'm sure everyone at Fed Ex is just waiting for a body panel from an unknown model.

It's more like someone got the zip code wrong and the street could have been named for example, North Main st and South Main st. The zip code didnt match the one end of main so they may have used common sense and figured it was the other end of main. Shit like this happens all the time.
Maybe if Shippers could read English and get the fucking address correct??

Another example. The shipper addressed a package for Vancouver BC instead of Vancouver Washington. We got the package, and it turned out to be original legal documents for a land purchase, with a deadline. Of course the Lawyer's office, land buyer, land seller were all threatening to sue FedEx, because of course the shipper denied all responsibility. We sent 2 guys who had just finished a 10 hour shift, in one of the guy's personal car to Vancouver Washington to deliver the package before the deadline. He was sitting in front of the lawyer's office in Vancouver Washington, reading the paper and eating doughnuts waiting for the office to open in the am. The package had been addressed incorrectly.

Charge to the customer? Regular rate. Of course it's never the Shipper's or Reciever's fault is it? And as far as stealing stuff, sure, it goes on in any business. BUT FedEx has some safeguards that even most of the employees dont know about. I ended up delivering an empty ring box which was in a FedEx envelope. I had no idea what was in the package but was questioned about it at the end of my shift. The next day I was told to go and pickup the package. Turns out that in all FedEx packaging, there are codes that tell you what city that package originated in and what date the package was made. Someone had opened it and then switched the Fed Ex envelope. It let me off the hook, but they never suspected me anyway.

And I really dont know how you "false scan". The tracker makes note of a waybill number that has not been scanned but keyed in. The package gets scanned everytime someone handles it. Customs even comes in with Xray machines and about once or twice a month, opened EVERY International package that was in our Richmond warehouse. Those packages are even scanned with an exception code added to them that shows up as Customs delaying the package.

Another thing the public doesnt think of is weather. It can be beautiful here but lets say in Memphis, the main FedEx hub, they can be having tornadoes, icestorms and vice versa. Do you realize how many flights are fucked up if there's bad weather?? Nothing anyone can do. Same with mechanical problems on aircraft. All that has to happen is one idiot light come on and the aircraft sits there. Backups at US airports is another problem. Do you know what a sitting duck a cargo aircraft only is for a terrorist bomb?

We had security around our aircraft in Vancouver for a while. Yes, in Canada!

I have not read all of these posts....but I can say that they don't call them ooops for nothing!

UPS - is not my fav choice when it comes to shipping. In fact, unless the network I am working for forces us to use them, we DON'T! If items are coming in from the States and they are out of our controll, we do see an ooops driver from time to time. Other wise, FEDEX is the way to go!

I recently had an issue with a mistake FEDEX made with three of our packages, and to make up for it they voided the cost and sent us coupons.

Also, for Inter Canadian shipments Canada Post Rocks! They are very competative and quick - and they are CANADIAN!

I did like the bed sheet & spray can thing! ghetto style! LOL
