SpeedTV. Fair and balanced????

I had noticed a pattern last year, particularly when Speed was covering the 600 Supersport races. The announcers would always talk up the Yamaha R6 like it was totally dominating the Supersport class. This was in spite of T. Hayden and R.L. Hayden actually being the ones who were dominating and were 1st and 2nd in points. This carried through until the last race of the season where the only question was which Kawasaki rider would win the championship. The ZX10 seemed to get a similar lack of coverage, as well.

Did you also happen to note that Dave Sadowski departed from Speed under mysterious circumstances last year. Hmmmm.

Sadowski is interviewed on www.superbikeplanet.com and he had some interesting comments about his departure from Speed. This is some of what he said.

"when they told me I couldn't mention a certain brand on TV, and then right after the meeting of them telling me I couldn't mention certain thingsĀ—Roger Lee and Tommy came around leading the race."

WTF. Fair and balanced coverage?????

Ski is a good guy and friend. What he says is true. I thought he was even better than Freddie (when he was commentating). I wish him well.

I seldom watch speed TV, mostly because it spends most of it's time covering NASCAR. And to be quite honest, I have zero time for that. And now they can't mention a brand name? There goes what littile time I did spend watching Speed. I did watch part of that Build or bust show the other night and that is about as lame a show as there ever was.

NASCAR sucks. So here is an example of their whining
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8018894/
"Robby Gordon accused Danica Patrick of having an unfair advantage in the Indianapolis 500 and said Saturday he will not compete in the race again unless the field is equalized."

Don't you just love a tuna who can't really cut it and starts sniveling about someone having a weight advantage. I have a suggestion for him, Lay off the damn donuts you fat f__k. What an asshole. And he is a NASCAR driver, that is where he learned to snivel.

Actually, Robby Gordon started off in Indy Cars before moving over to NASCAR. His transition over to NASCAR hasn't been all that smooth either because he didn't come up the same way as the rest of the good ol' boys. I still remember the one of two road courses that NASCAR actually runs in. Robby didn't have a ride for that race and one of the teams decided to hire him for that race as he's a road course specialist with his experience in Indy Cars. Well many of the hill billys got upset seeing as he was hired as a ringer for the track. One of the cars that wasn't even in contention to place in the top 10 and I even think was a lap car was pushing Robby hard the last few laps forcing him to use up his tires. Jeff Gordon ended up winning that race because he just sat back and watched one of his buddys harrass Robby.

Now for the issue with weight and Danica Patrick. It's always been an issue among drivers. This came up when Cristiano Da Matta was running in CART before he moved over to F1 (now he's back again in CART.) He was dominating the field and many drivers where starting to say some things about his weight being an advantage. Da Matta has all the dimensions of a horse jockey. I don't know. In many ways, I see the point of some of these drivers when it comes to weight. In racing any extra lb you can shave off is an advantage. But I can see that weight alone won't make a person that much more competitive as it takes skills to also run fast.

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the history ZX10 Guy.
If weight was an advantage, and I was a racer, I would make sure that I was at a competitive weight.
I wouldn't try to punish another racer, if they were lighter, for doing a better job than me.
Sure, Danica may be a lot lighter than any man - I saw her bikini photo's, she doesn't carry around any extra meat.
But, we all know men are stronger, exspecially in the upperbody - and she is racing against them.
Who cares?
If your job is to race, do the job the best you can, use all the tools that you can develope to try to get an upper hand.
Work out, and skip the desserts.

I was watching the races at PPIR last weekend. I turned on the tv to when the races were supposed to start and what I saw on SPEED was a bunch of cars parked in the rain.
So, I waited and waited. They showed the drivers sitting around - I remember commenting on one driver being rather fat, I guess that was Robby. I don't watch car stuff - too many wheels.
Then SPEED finally gives up on the wet car race and goes to the Motorcycle racing 30min late. Then SPEED starts showing the race from SearsPoint/Infineon, instead of the live race I was promised at PPIR.
So, 45min after the races were supposed to be on I finally get to see the Superbike race.

It was a good race. Bostrom and Yates battled for first. Mladin had to go in for tires and worked his way up back from 8th to 5th with 5 laps to go.
Mladin was behind Josh Hayes who is riding his ZX10-R . Hayes was riding on the tires he started the race with. Hayes holds Mladin off and then with 3 laps to go Mladin passes Hayes for the forth place finish.

All this is fair in racing - what I didn't like was SPEED's comment, "Well, I was expecting a bit more of a battle from Josh Hayes over forth' and then he said something like (not exact quote), "Josh seemed to just give up and hand it over to Mladin". I thought that that was an unfair and bitchie comment. Since Hayes was on his original tires and Mladin had gone into the pits for tires - I thought Hayes did a good job of holding Mladin off as long as he did and was smart not to get sucked into a' battle' and push his tires. Of course forth would have been nice - but Hayes was the only Kawasaki that made it up on the board with his 5th place finish.
Good Job!

I don't like SPEED - but, right now that's how I get to see the races I can't go to.

I think the reason he went over to NASCAR if because he heard that they have great BBQs. and with the cars so rulebound you can be a fat slob and still be in the hunt. The talented guys are held back by stupid rules, so the slow fat boys can keep up. Then go look at Patrick, that is a lean mean fighting machine. I went riding today and didn't catch her performance at Indy, but from what I read, she did awesome.

Yeah. Danica did great. She had a miscue on the second pit stop that put her down into 16th position. Stalled the car and had trouble getting the engine fired back up. Then she got into an incident just before a restart from a yellow. Spun the car a bit when....in my personal opinion....the guy in front of her checked up on her. She was on the throttle and the guy slowed down causing her to have to run high and go side ways. She made contact with a car and had to go back into the pits to get a new front wing and nose cone. Even after all that, she was running in 1st for the last few laps until Wheldon passed her. She hung on till I think about 2 laps to go when it was apparent she was running on fumes. She still finished in 4th. But I feel that if she didn't stall during that one pit stop that she could have very well won the 500.

As far as the history with Robby Gordon, he wasn't doing well in CART as he was a bit of a loose cannon. He was driving too aggressively and gained a reputation for not being very easy to deal with. I think eventually, none of the teams wanted him around so he went into NASCAR.

Oh and BTW, I also think Speed TV blows. Wish there would be some grass roots effort to push for a competing racing channel. I'd bet that people would be defecting in droves to support this new race channel.

I was as shocked as everyone when I saw a bunch of CRASHCARs sitting in a rain delay preempting the scheduled AMA races. I mean come on. This race wasn't even the big series races like Winston or Bush.

Robby Gordon's shop is around the corner from us. I couldn't believe he made that comment. Danica should take that as a very nice compliment to her skills. The one good thing about it, is that the comments appear to be focused on just her being a super lightweight and very fast racer having an advantage. No mention of gender which is exactly the way it should be. That's hot!

IMO the whole weight thing is BS. The reason I say this. Look at is big ass Dave Jefferies. That dude was huge, and dominated the Isle of Man. RIP Dave........
