Installed the Muzzy aluminum fan.

Well after about a week of just mulling over how the heck I'm gonna get the fan assembly out, I finally got around to doing the install. First off, you do NOT have to remove the airbox or fuel tank to get to the bolts necessary to pull down the fan assembly...found this out the hard way. All you need to do is to remove the two bolts holding the radiator to the frame. This will allow you to drop the radiator down enough to provide enough clearance to get a ratchet and socket in there. The top left bolt and the bottom one weren't too bad to get out. The top right bolt which is mounted virtually in the middle of the radiator is the one that causes all the disassembly to be necessary. Pieces you'll need to remove are the lower and middle fairings plus both plastic skirts where the front turn signals mount to. The removal of the skirts just allow you to have more work room. It's probably not necessary to removal these pieces but I wanted the most access possible. There are only two bolts holding the radiator to the frame (bottom and top right.) Once you get these bolts off, you can push from the right side of the radiator towards the left. Doing this unhooks the top left side of the radiator from the pin that is holding up the radiator. Now the radiator should just drop down a little and will provide the space needed to get to the last bolt for the fan. Note: Be extra careful not to bend any of the radiator fins when working in the tight space between the front of the engine and the radiator. I bent some fins a little but it wasn't too bad. I'm surprised I didn't bend more. So here are the pics.

I tested out the fan by letting my bike idle in the garage till it got nice and toasty. The temp got up to about 210 F when the fan kicked on. The temp immediately started to drop and held steady at 207/208 F for about 5 minutes of idling before I shut down the motor. I left the bike on to let the fan run and cool down with the new fan was also faster than the stock fan. So far everything looks promising with the Muzzy fan. The real test is to have the bike out in traffic but I don't expect much of any difference over what I saw in the garage. A cheap cooling mod for our bikes that tend to run hot...too bad it's such a pain in the rear to put in. Fortunately, I only need to do it once. Hopefully, I've saved someone some headaches in figuring out how to get the fan blade installed.

Well you could always wire in a parallet switch to turn the fan on in traffic.
I dont like letting a bike just idle till the fan comes on.

If you shut the 10 down, and the engine is too hot, wont the fan continue to run until the engine is cooled off enough?

I only ask cause the 12 does that. If it's running too hot, it's not uncommon for me to hear the fan still going after I kill the engine.

I'm glad to be of help to you guys. The only thing I wished I did was take pictures along the way as I was tearing things apart. It was kinda late last night and I didn't expect to actually do the job. I walked out to my garage to stare at the whole setup. I then picked up some tools and started tearing apart the fairings then the other bolts started to get undone. And before I knew it, I was nose deep into the project. I don't even remember what time I started but I would guess I'd spent about 2 hours or so on the project. You could shave off about 30-45 mins. of that time due to me just staring at the thing and fumbling around with various options. Like I said, the airbox and fuel tank was a dead end idea; so that wasted some time. I know it would have been more helpful if I had taken pictures as I was on the right track to disassembling the radiator. But I didn't know I was on the right track until I got the radiator to drop down. By that time I was SOOOOOO ecstatic that I got the bloody fan out that I was just focused on putting everything back together. The pics I took were melded in between my haste to put everything back together and my excitement that I conquered this project. But if anyone has any questions about the install, I would be more than happy to guide you all through.
