Trailers to haul your bike? What is good enough but not too costly purchase for a trailer to haul ZX-10R 90 miles to dragstrip.
I am considering a small trailer previously used to haul a tractor lawnmower around.
Wondering if anyone has had a bad experience;by
1. going too fast; 65mph should be ok I think or am told.
2. wheel bearing failure.
3. excessive wobbles.
4. tire failure.
Just inquiring to educate myself more; never bought a small trailer before.
shoot your ideas or opinions if ya like (cool). but prefer experienced information and facts if ya know any....

trailer My dad has a trailer shop in dallas, texas so i have had alot of expeirence in this area just get a 10ft utility trailer with a gate on the back just like what they use to haul lawn mowers on, its alot cheaper than buying a so called cycle trailer. They are safe to haul a bike on their cheap and you can use them for other purposes if you have to. hope this helps

yes , what pit said. 8x10 with 14 or 15 inch wheels. if the wheels on the trlr are the same size as the wheels on your tow vehicle then you want need to carry an extra spare for the trlr.oh yeah make sure you line the bottom of the trlr with wood, the mesh tends to bend over time from the weight of the bike..

Good advice everyone! You might want to consider a sport chock for the trailer, or at least a good wheel chock like a Pit Bull.

I have a friend that sells a motorcycle hauler that fits in your receiver hitch. It tilts on one end,you pull up on it and it locks in the level position.Depending on what vehicle you have this might be an option for you. I will call and get the website info for you.

No matter what size or type of trailer you get, make sure that it has a "Bearing Buddy" or something like it on the hubs. You can get them at any auto parts place and probably even Wal-Mart. Super easy to install and almost eleminates the need to tear down the hubs for repacking.

Like Pitbulldog said with what swft said. Pingel sells great wheel chocks. My trailer is 5x8 and more then enough. Great for doing things around the house.

Pingel chocks suck. One bent rotor with them and their "cheapy" $50 price is soon costing you hundreds to replace rotors.
I definitely recommend a chock like swft suggested.

TurboBlew,
Don't see how you could bend a rotor unless the bike was not tied down properly to begin with. Did one side come loose while traveling or something? I've used the Pingel chock with CanyonDancers with no problems for years, but I guess something can always happen . . .

NEVERMIND, Looking at their website I could easily see if you had one of their older type chocks here is their new quote.
"Pingel has changed the design of the 6 ½" wheel chocks. It is now recommended for use with all sized tires up to 6 ½" wide. This allows the same wheel chock for your dirt bike, sport bike, cruiser, touring bike, custom, or drag bike. This new design features increased rotor clearance for motorcycles that are equipped with large diameter rotors i.e. new sport bikes. "
Hate that happened, the one I have is the lower profile type . . .

I have the Pingel 6.5in wide chocks in my trailer and wouldnt trade them for anything. with extra mounting plates I can move them around depending on how many bikes I am hauling.
By the way I have a 7x16 enclosed trailer with a ramp door. Its a little big but its nice to have the extra room to haul 3 bikes plus my pit bike and gear.
No storage issues, no worries about tires blowing out, no issues parking.
If some of you have good things to say then I am going to buy one right now.
Let me know.
Crispin my friend sells this type of bike carrier,He says everyone that has purchased seems to really like them.I can give you his number, call and ask him some questions.Let me know if I can help.
