Haven't noticed it, but if it's a problem with the finish, it should be covered under warranty, is my guess.

If you take it in to get it fixed make sure to tell the survice guy that there is a new tool that is used to change the fork seals, if they dont have it you'll be waiting like I have for the past 2 weeks to get my bike fixed.

It does look like overspray. Any thing in a spray can you've used in that area? Brake cleaner or ??
The first GSXR1000's had a problem with their gold nitride wearing off, but it looked nothing like that.
Good luck

I gotta believe that will be replaced under warranty. The coating is coming off. Looks like a simple defect is all. Take it in.

xl, i don't do any stoppies (i have neither the ability nor the desire to do them), and the only time i have tied my bike down was on the way home from the dealer (it was snowing at the time).
the only cleaning products i have used on the bike are the S100 motorcycle wash and wax/detail stuff (and even then, i don't spray the stuff on my forks).

S100 will do that if it's not rinsed off completely.

My fork seals where bad the day I got my bike but the dealer didnt have the seats in stock so they orderd them and two weeks later I brought my bike in to fix the seals and then they call me and say that there is a special tool to compress the fork. So I take my bike home and wait for the tool to come in so they can fix it. Three weeks later the tool comes in and they call me to set an appointment to fix my bike. I drop my bike off at the dealer in the morning then get a call that afternoon that they cant fix it because when taking the front axle off they found out that the collar on the left fork tube had spun and guld up and now they have to replace my fork tube. I have it overnighted so I can get my bike fixed for the weekend but I have to pay the overnight shipping. The part comes in the next morning and they tell me they will have to reschedule an appointment to fix my bike (F..CK)To make a long story short I still dont have my bike after 3 weeks of BS.

swft, everything is rinsed off after a wash (white spots appear if it is not totally rinsed off)...what makes you think that the S100 motorcyle wash would do that kind of damage to the forks? i thought it was water-based?

It's not the Sodium Sulfalaurelacitate in S100 - I use the pure chemical (wife makes soap, don't ask) in thin solution (many bubbles, lifts dirt and insect remains RIGHT OFF). No fork troubles.

Hot10R, Thanks for the reply - sorry to hear about your runaround. If you don't mind, would you briefly describe how you knew the seals were bad from day 1. Was it a slow steady leak, intermittent, etc. My left fork slider gets a very tiny drip every 150 or so miles, and seems to be subsiding. Thanks in advance.
Admin. - sorry for changing the topic a little here.

no acid in S100...that's supposed to be the benefit of using it. here's a sales blurb:
The worlds first spray on/rinse off cleaner developed for motorcycles. Use it to clean your whole bike, motor and all. Safe for surfaces such as paint, chrome, alloy, plastic, rubber, bearings, o-rings, etc. S100 is non-acid, pH controlled and contains corrosion inhibitors. On top of all this, it is bio-degradable.

I dont really know how to explain it. If you push down on the frontend you will see oil on your forks, its very easy to tell when the seals are bad. If you have any dought about it I would take it to the dealer to get it looked at, just make sure they get the tool to fix it before you leave them your bike or you'll be in the same boat as me.Good Luck

Hot10R, Thanks for the reply. I'm from the old school and always am looking for the telltale ring of oil that is constantly around the fork tube. I'm not getting that now, and certainly there is never any oil just by compressing the front at a standstill. Just a tiny trickle appears every now and then. A local dealer has even suggested that it probably is just some leftover grease from assembly that is trickling down. The bike only has 1500 miles on it. He implied that it probably would go away. I don't have alot of time to devote to my streetbike due to other commitments, so if you have any other input it would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance and sorry to keep bugging you. Any other knowledgeable opinions are welcome.
PS Sorry guys for taking up this space, but suspension was never my forte.

It sounds like your bike is fine, You'll definitely know when the seals are bad. When the seals go bad you'll have an oil ring around the fork (I wish I had a pic)Try this wipe your forks dry then hold the front brake lever and push down on the frontend then check to see if there is any oil on the forks, if there is an oil ring on the fork then you got a leaky fork seal. Oh and I get my bike back today but its 110 degrees out so I thing I will wait until tomorrow morning to pic it up.
