Almost went down in my Squid Gear
Whoo...
Took the bike out yesterday to go round the corner to the store (for something small).
Had on my full squid gear;
T-Shirt
Shorts
Sneakers
Sunglasses
It was such a nice morning that I took a bit of a detour to the store.
Just cruising around everything was good.
Then I went and hit my favorite empty roads for a couple of wheelies and stoppies.
Figured I better get back to the house so took the turn to get over to the store.
Hit the bike as hard as I could to the top of 3rd.
Everything felt fine, grabbed a handful of brakes, dropped the bike to bang a left into the store and the rear stepped out a couple of feet. (sliding for no reason)
Almost sh*t a brick, wasn't expecting it at all, got the bike going straight and it felt all messed up.
Pulled into a spot and through out the sidestand.
The bike wouldn't barley sit on the stand.
Got off and look at the rear tire, all the way flat, sitting on the rim flat, never seen such a flat type of flat.
I was doing 140 on that flat a couple of seconds before.
Of course I had no cell phone on me.
I was around 1 mile from the house so I bought a can of fix-a-flat and scooted home.
What happened to the tire is this.
About a week after I bought the bike I picked up a screw.
I brought the bike to the shop and they patched the tire from the inside.
I never like patched tires but I figured the tire was a week old and the small hole was in the middle of the tread so it should not be an issue.
I will never get a patch again.
I have this bike up to 180 all the time.
It is not worth it.
You can never tell when a patch is going to go.
I only have around 1400 miles on the bike.

damn lucky ya made it thru that without crashing, esp given the choice of gear!
i'd be durious as to how the tire went flat tho. i dont think a proper patch is gonna let all the air out just liek that. i could imagine it slowly leaking (tho that's unlikely), but yunless it was installed completely incorrectly, i do not see hwo it coudl go flat so fast. i'm thinkin ya picked up another nail r somethin.
anyway, next time yer gonna rail and pull a coupel moves, wear ur gear damnit!

Oh, wait. My point.lol
I work @ a car dealer. We have a plug/patch combo. Tire has to be broken down, sanded on the inside and cemented on. It looks and feels like a solid setup. I'm not tryn to talk you in to it by any means. I patchd mine for my nutz'o friend.(He ran my last one) The plug fills the hole and the patch covers an inch around in all directions. My buddy had the last one over 150mph every sunday for a summer till he used it up. Wheelied it too

Sounds to me like a classic case of $10 Head $10 Helmet ! before you decide to try that little trick next time take a second to consider the poor bastard who has to pickup the pieces when you just don't happen to be so lucky next time. I am not your Father but just read your post from another perspective and have a long hard think!
Not getting on your case and each to his own, but lets not give the law makers anymore ammo to shoot us in the ASS with.

A good lesson for many. You never know what will happen.
Just a few minutes ago, I had a ring side seat for a near miss on a motorcycle car incident. Dude on a Harley (with a good helmet) was in the center lane (of 3) slowing for a light. Some old fart (at least my age) was in the right lane and for some unknown reason starting drifting over towards the Harley. The Harley rider never saw him coming since the car was outside of his field of view from the mirrors. Fortunately, the old fart dropped out of the Altzheimer state about an inch before hitting the bike and suddenly swerved back to his lane. You never know what will happen. Be safe everyone.

I am a technician at a kawasaki dealership and I tell people that come in wanting me to patch their tire that I absolutely will NOT do it. I tell them that their life is worth more than 160 dollars that a new tire cost, I don't care how new the tire is once it has a hole in it, its no good! Plus the patch manufacturer says that the patch is only good to 45 to 55 mph. I don't know anyone who doesn't take their 10 over that speed sometimes anyway.

Hey I have a real expensive helmet.
Just thought it would a quick, fun ride.
Anyway I looked at the tire some more.
It absolutely tore at the same spot as the patch.
The patch I had installed was just like someone described.
It was like a mushroom that was glued in from the inside of the tire.
My point of the thread was 2fold
1) Wear your gear
2) Don't patch your tire, just get a new one.

P.S. do you use the same handle on a couple of other boards?
