Gearbox Question
Hi there guys,
I have only done about 400km so far but I find the gearchange to be really "clunky" and difficult. After a ride I actually have a sore gearchange foot. Has anyone else experienced this? Does it loosen up in time? How about changing to synthetic oils??
Any info appreciated!
Thanks!

Yes, it becomes very smooth - by 2000 miles (3200 km) mine was very smooth and light effort. At 5000 miles mine's unnoticeable.
I changed to synthetic (Motul 5100) at 1200 miles; you need to break the engine in on mineral oil base, or at least that is the conventional wisdom I subscribe to.

Mine's also at 5k miles and also using the Motul 5100 (since 1800 miles though) - prolly one of the smoother transmissions I've had.

Malice...try adjusting the shift pedal down some so you dont have to put so much effort into it.....this may or may not help.

I've got 1600 km on mine so far, and it shifts like butta!!! No probs at all. I did notice when it was new it would take a bit more pressure, made my toe hurt a bit, but it's smooth as can be now.

Mine feels clunky also. Just changed my oil today. 800 miles. Went to Golden Spectrol 10/40. Once today I felt the shifter pop up and hit the bottom of my foot well after the shift. It didn't jump out of gear but it did get my attention. Is is after I moved the shifter down a knotch.
I hope it does smooth out.........but I wouldn't count on it.

I had to move the shifter and the clutch/brake handles way down.
Moving the shifter helped loads.
It's way better now w/ 2000 miles - getting to be amazingly smooth.
Hard to miss a shift - no sore foot - can click it back to neutral at 60+mph from any / all gears without 'bad noise'.
I'm happier w/ each passing mile (with bike in general) - and it's not just me getting used to it.

You guys are fantastic! Thanks so much for the input, it has put my mind at ease. Extremelean I will try your suggestion. Bugger is I work some 6000km from my bike :-( so it will only be in 2 months time but I will be sure to let you know! Thanks again ZX10 riders are evidently just as amazing as the bike!
