I suspect if something else dominated the market it would get the hacker's attention and prove just as vulnerable.

You could be right. But then again, Netware was dominant as a networking os for many years, and it wasn't subject to thousands of hacks. Netscape was the dominant browser and it wasn't full of the flaws that IE has been shown to have.
