Custom Built Fender Eliminator

Thought you guys might be interested in seeing the plate hanger that my friend made for me. I told him my idea and he fabbed it. Took him all of about 45 minutes. 1/4" aluminum construction, plasma cut, TIG welded, drilled and painted.

I didn't go with any tabs to mount turn-signals, as I'll be going with a tail-light integrator kit, once I decide which one I like best.

Oh, and before anyone says anything, I'll be changing out the stainless bolts for some flat-head ones that I can easily paint black to match. Just need to pull the bracket off again to countersink the holes first. Should clean it up a little more, I think.

Here's a couple pics:

Whatcha think?

License plate light? Well... since I never ride at night, I'm kinda gonna not worry about it too much. You know?

...uh huh!...that makes perfect sense...but y'know how some hard-up cops are ...did you know that your vehicle must be properly equiped with headlights, turnsignals, license plate lights, etc., while being operated on the public roadways of California at night as well as during the day?...no shit!...I'm not making it up ...but only a hard-up cop would sweat you for the license plate light during daylight hours...but the other lights are another story...if they really, really want Probable Cause to stop and contact you, there it is...hey, just fyi, ok...don't shoot the messenger

Yeah, I know that you're supposed to have a light on the plate, 24/7 (and do appreciate the heads-up, btw). But I've ridden w/o for a couple years now. My take on it is, if an officer writes you for something as trivial as no plate light in daylight, you probably did something else to piss him/her off in the first place. Most cops I've dealt with won't bother with signal or plate light issues. Although, you are absolutely correct that it does give probable cause to stop me if they so desire. Good thing I got nothin' to hide, huh?

My understanding is that it is just an equipment violation (or fix-it ticket), so although it's a pain, it's not a point on your record, so I guess I'm willing to take the chance. Please let me know if I'm wrong on that one.

That's why I like the Targa package. It comes with a license light and LED turn signals. And if the tail light is LED why not make them all LED? I know some of you guys will say they are not DOT approved but I will take chance because of the look. I will post my pics now but if they don't come out it's because it's my first time trying. I hope this works.

About the Targa: It's two aluminum peices to fill the channels the stocker went into, held on with four bolts.

There is a license plate bracket that you must drill two holes for (1/4), and you must drill a 1/2" (I think they wanted 5/8, but I used a 1/2) hole for the wiring, plus one more hole for the LED plate light. The LED plate light does not light up very much real estate, BTW.

I will need to plug these holes when I reinstall the stock mudflap/light when I sell the bike...

This is what it looks like with bulbs instead of LEDs:

Yes, If you are talking about the stock under tail holes from the fender mounts. That's why I say it's the best Iv'e seen so far because you get the covers and the bolts. I just added my own touch with some anodized bolts which gave me from what I have seen so far the cleanest look. I garantee you others will follow. If you want I can send you the link from what it looks like from behind the license plate, its just as impresive.
