Lowering Front via fork tubes

Hello all.

I dropped the fork tubes a little less than an inch yesterday.

I took the bike out for an hour or so and still do not know how I feel.

It seemed to change the bike yet I cannot figure out what the difference is.

Seems to turn in nice. Still feels stable. Doesn't seem to throttle wheelie as much.

But I do not know if it is sublimnal or what but I do not feel that I like it this way.

Has anyone else lowered the front like this?

I will say that it makes the bike look better but I am not going to change the handling of the bike just for 'looks'

A little feedback from the group wuold be great.

Thanks!

Cris

Is it something that needed to be done because of you height? And it should not wheelie as easily since your putting more weight on the front wheel. If its a look your after with seat time you become more familiar with its new riding profile; just take it easy even around corners you feel you know extremly well.

I am 6 feet tall.

I did it for a couple of reasons.

1) Thought if the bike wheelied less I could accelerate faster

2) Wanted to see how it effected handling, I see alot of info that says trackbikes have the rear raised for handling.

3) Looks good.

I am sure many others have done this on past bikes. I just wanted to hear from them how it effected their bikes.

I raised mine 3mm not including the cap and yes i felt an instant diff no matter what type of riding i did.

Crispin your change of nearly an inch is drastic! and i mean drastic in the sense of making such a big change all @ once. Incremental changes have proven to work when it comes to geometry, suspension, etc and should be taken seriously as the rake & trail #'s are tweeked. By raising the tubes nearly 1" & effectively lowering the front end the weight transfer diff is substantial as the bike sits let alone after you climb on so in the interest of self preservation you may consider yet another change.

When trying to improve the handling of a sportbike, most suspension tuners speak of moving the forks in triple clamp by just a couple of milimeters at a time. Most do not go too far past six, maybe eight milimeters (approx. 5/16"). Anything beyond that put the overall geometery so far out of whack that the rear would need to be altered to bring it back in to balance. Tire brands can also come into play since the varying profiles alter the set-up ofthe bike.
