Anyone on this forum roadracing their 10r?
Just looking for people to bounce setup ideas and such off of. Seeing as these bikes appear to be critically sensitive, having a group to discuss with could be very helpful.

Critically sensitive? Where did that come from? The forks are very nice right out of the box, as are the brakes. The rear shock is cosmetic and a good aftermarket unit will make a huge difference. I put a Penske 8987 on mine and I'm very impressed. It'll be a while before I can out-ride the chassis now. I'm starting to play with ride height, I think with a good damper you can get the ass up pretty high and not lose stability. The goal would be to lighten the steering (it's a bit of a cow... muahahahaha). My concern would be putting too much weight on the front tire, as I run the Rennsports with their wimpy sidewalls. It doesn't seem to need more swingarm angle, I think the factory got that pretty good. I'm going to see how much I can drop the front. Stupid fucking tapered fork asshole migrated over from suzuki, so there is a real limit there.

Yes, I'm racing a ZX-10R this year. Initial setup, 10mm front drop (including the caps), initial rear ride height was increased 2mm (at shock); after testing several springs we've settled on a 12.0kg at 22mm rear sag, 35-36mm front sag (rider). Front springs are 1.0kg's. Forks were modified by Lindemann Engineering, the rear is a Ohlins 3-way (HC valving modified by Dan Kyle).
We'll more than likely add 3-4mm in height to the rear (at the shock); just make sure your on the gas immediately after you bend it in. We've set the idle at 3500 to reduce the chance of off throttle tuck.
Disclaimer: The above is purely for reference, ideally your machine should be setup according to your riding requirements.
Thanks!

VPREATER, are you retiring your Yamaha after its first few outings?
You may want to include your weight for reference on the springs.

Erich:
Not at all, the ZX-10R is dealer sponsored/team owned, the R1 is team owned/forum sponsored. We're ultimately at a class crossroads, one will remain production legal, the other will be modified for AFM SBK/GP, CCS GTO/GP usage. (AFM doesn't allow production class machines to be entered in to Open GP)
Presently we're still faster on the R1, however stability and feedback have been major issues; with the assistance of Graves we're testing new fork/shock valving; with the ZX-10R we're having to start new relationships; cultivation of those relationships hasn't progressed nearly as fast as we had hoped.
As for rider weight, we're actually over sprung given the rider weight; this was due to corner entrance chatter; increasing spring rate was a quick solve; to date a few others have discovered this as well. After this weekend we'll have more data.
Thanks!

10mm lower in front seems to be the way to go. We've been all around with geometry, front and rear. The rear is tough. It feels like it needs more height, but the tuck factor is huge. We tried 2mm and 3mm higher in back (at the shock mount) and found the turn in to be wonderful, but the midcorner at extreme lean is hairy.
BTW, the bike is torturing front D208GP's and turning them into junk at a very high rate. Similar to the "cupping" problems of yesteryear, the center tread groves are quickly made uneven by the radical geometry. We are going to try Pirelli Dragon Supercorsa's to see if this phenomenon is still present.
Has anyone else had similar issues with Dunlop race tires on this bike?

I am running the 208 GPs on mine and they did well at Road Atlanta yesterday.

VPREater, I'd like to meet up with you this weekend at Infineon if possible. I am running AFM and Laguna this year on this thing, and I would be very curious to talk with you about your experiences setting your bike up. I was at Buttonwillow yesterday riding this thing for the first time, and it has some of the same issues that you described (chatter in the front) We didn't drop the front yet, as the head angle seems ok, but we did raise the rear 3 mm to gain swingarm angle. ANyway, I'll have my trailer this weekend, big orange TSR on the side, and the bike is primer grey with orange tank number 535.
