Anodizing anyone?

just wondering if anyone had thought about anodizing any of the aluminum parts on the bike... I like the look of anodized aftermarket pieces (like rearsets, levers, etc..) and was wondering if that was something that could be done to the stock pieces. Any thoughts?

Yeah me too. I did some research and found a place on the internet that sells a starter kit. Here is what can be done:

---Must be aluminum.---No cast aluminum.
---No steel or other non aluminum metal pieces can be pressed into the
aluminum part to be anodized. They will be destroyed during the process

Remember - anodizing scratches fairly easily and also fades.

I believe the better a part is anodized, i.e thickness of anodozed layer, die used, then the less prone it is to fading and scracthing.

hmm... I'm not looking to start my own anodizing business or anything... just looking at options. So aren't the colored aluminum parts for sale out there anodized? Or are they that color all the way through?

Some are anodized. Some are powder coated. It's an external coating. It doesn't go all the way through.

I just finished anodizing my stock exhaust can yesterday . It now exactly matches the front fork tubes and fork caps . The can is now gold , bling bling . Must say it looks pretty bitchin . I polished the can to a mirror finish first .

Polishing the surface prior to anodizing will give you a mirror type finish and anodizing the non-polished surface will leave a matte finish (for those who don't know).
