WHO LIKES HOW THE 10R COMES APART?
Recently did mods to the 10r, and love how easily the lower and side fairings come off, so fast compared to my 12r. The lower I take off in 1 piece, 3 scres each side, and walla, off. Then the sides 3 more eachside, and walla off. They really made this bike with racing in mind. Going to my first ever track day in 3 weeks @ New Hampshire Int. Speedway(Loudon). Really excited...Never done this before so i am also a little nervous, but know i will be the best time. Will let you all now how did when I get back.

doood, I have a decent mechanical aptitude and have taken apart lots of stuff, but I've had a rough go at removing the fairing off of a 10R, especially the front turn-sig and the panel its attached to...I have all of the screws unscrewed (even the three green sheet-metal-type screws from the recessed holes), but its still hung up on something...what's the secret? (still waiting for a shop manual)...thanks.

I thought it was quite tricky to get the lower fairings off in one piece. Felt I was going to break one of the tabs off any second. Anyone know how to seperate the 2 lower fairings - can't work out how those 'buttons' work.

I never had a ZX12 and maybe the ZX10 is easy to work on compared to 12, but it aint easy compared to some other bikes. Fifteen or so turns of each allen head screw is pure B.S. Where are the Dzus fastners?
FYI, the "buttons" have a notch on each side on the top of the base piece. Stick a blade screw driver into the slot and pop the center pin out (not completely out, don't force it). When the center pin is pulled out, then the whole button will come out.
I would not recommend taking the left and right lower fairings off in one piece. I think you will eventually break a locking tab or fairing if you make a practice of removing the bottom pieces intact. To take them off separately, first, remove the 5 plastic pins (the Gixxer 1K only needs 3) along the bottom of the lower fairing halves. Then remove the 2 screws mateing the black lower pieces to the colored pieces. Next, remove one screw from the metal stay at the back end of the lower fairings. Finally, remove the large head allen screws that mount the fairing to the frame below the footpegs. Be careful not to loose the nearly invisible, thin plastic washers on the large head allen screws. Once you have done this, the lower pieces should be able to be removed separately.

Compared to my old CBR, this thing's a breeze. The undertail mod was simple, the removal of the lowers for oil change was simple and intuitive for me, no problems removing in one peice - and voila, the mechanical beauty of Kawasaki.
It's all in what you come from, 'ya know?

It is sooooooooooooooooo simple to take the lowers of in one piece, and no risk of damaging anything. I guess from being in Autobody 15 years it is easy for me... And whats up with how many turns of the allens?? Get a t-handle and they spin right off.. And as far as seperating.... if you hold the mid section where the tab is inserted, and use your thumb and push up and out, the lower unhooks easily, do 1 side, get a 2x4 and balance bottom, then do other side, and in basically 2 min. you are done. The 5 plastic push in clips holding the 2 lowers together are automotive clips and they will lose there strength from being taken off and put back on over and over...And Kawasaki will bend u over for each one to buy too.... just my opinion though...
